Women's Track & Field Opens Indoor Campaign

FULL RESULTS

GENEVA, Ohio – The Daemen College women's indoor track & field team kicked off their 2015-16 season today by traveling to Ohio to compete in the SPIRE North Coast Indoor Track and Field Open held at SPIRE Institute.  The team was recently picked seventh in the East Coast Conference preseason poll

Leading the pack for the Wildcats on the day was long distance runner Mackenzie Donahue (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) who finished in second place in the 3000-meter run, setting a new team record in the process with her time of 10:14.08.  Donahue's teammate, Amy Trabert (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst) placed third in the same event with a time of 10:31.97.  Donahue is coming off of a strong cross country season last fall, becoming Daemen's first athlete to qualify and compete in an NCAA Division II National Championship event. Donahue was also a first-team All-ECC performer during the 2014-15 indoor track and field season after finishing second in the 3,000-meter run at the conference championship meet.

Another team record fell as freshman Kyra Kress (Wayland, N.Y./Alfred-Almond Central) cleared 2.80 meters in the pole vault, placing fourth in an impressive collegiate debut.

The Wildcats compiled a time of 4:45.03 in the 4x400-meter relay, earning them a seventh-place spot.  This relay team included Morgan Urbanek (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder), Emily Radford (Holley, N.Y./Holley), Lindsay Wood (Newfield, N.Y./Newfield), and Brooke Nolan (Depew, N.Y./Depew).

Sophomore sprinter/jumper Jess Wisniewski (Rochester, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) finished fifth in the triple jump competition for the Wildcats by leaping 9.37 meters while teammate Rachel Roberson (Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) placed eighth in the long jump, reaching a distance of 4.65 meters.

The Wildcats had additional top-10 finishes from Sam Carro (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua), Ellory Roberts (Lowville, N.Y,/Lowville Academy), Emily Johnson (Franklinville, N.Y./Franklinville Central), Tiffany Cycon (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster), Urbanek and Wood.

Wood finished ninth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:37.31 with Urbanek finished fourth in the one-mile run with a time of 5:46.36.

Carro placed fourth in 60-meter hurdles, coming in just under 10 seconds with a time of 9.99, while Cycon finished ninth in both the 60-meter amd 200-meter dashes with times of 8.32 and 27.79 seconds, respectively.

The Wildcats will return to competition on January 30 in Ithaca, N.Y. for the Robert J. Kane Invitation hosted by Cornell University.
