ITHACA, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's indoor track and field team competed for the second-straight Saturday by partaking in the Robert J. Kane Invitational hosted Cornell University today at Barton Hall.
Coach
Paul Lagno took an abbreviated squad to the competition today, while several athletes, including stud long distance runner
Mackenzie Donahue (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) rested up for next weekend's meet at SPIRE Institute.
The Wildcats were paced on the track by their 4x400-meter relay team today. Â
Tiffany Cycon (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster),
Rachel Roberson (Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home),
Leah May (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) and
Kyra Kress (Wayland, N.Y./Alfred-Almond Central) completed the relay sprint in 4:26.54 to finish in sixth place out of 11 competing teams. Â
The 800-meter run was a strong event for the Wildcats today as
Lindsey Wood (Newfield, N.Y./Newfield) placed 13th with a time of 2:35.15, and
Brooke Nolan (Depew, N.Y./Depew) placed 16th with her time of 2:37.32.
Freshman
Sam Carro (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) ran a 9.81-second qualifying tim in the 60-meter hurdles, and followed that with a seventh-place finish in the finals of that event, running the race in 10.24 seconds.
In field events, thrower
Ellory Roberts (Lowville, N.Y./Lowville) set a new personal-best in the weight throw with a toss of 9.83 meters. Â She finished 21st.
Lagno's squad will return to SPIRE Institute for the second time in three weeks next Friday and Saturday (February 5-6) to participate in the NCAA Division II Challenge meet.
