John LeMar's third singles win of the season wasn't enough to push Daemen past Walsh today Men's Tennis 10/11/2016 3:40:00 PM Mike Miranto, Associate A.D. For Communications Men's Tennis Wraps Up Fall Season With Loss CANTON, Ohio - The Daemen College men's tennis team saw their short fall schedule come to an end this afternoon with an 8-1 loss to Walsh University in a non-conference dual-match at the Klekotka Tennis Complex. Daemen falls to 1-4 on the season while the host Cavaliers, an affiliate of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, improve to 5-1 with their fourth straight victory.  Walsh is coming off a 2015-16 season in which they made their first GLIAC Tournament appearance and attained their first-ever regional ranking at the NCAA Division II level. Walsh opened up a three-point lead by sweeping through doubles action, including wins in a pair of competitive contests.  In second doubles, veterans Vasily Vidmanov (Prague, Czech Republic) and Rodrigo Garcia (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) scored an 8-5 win over the Wildcats' Andrew LeMar (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) and Fabian Wilde (Crimmitschau, Germany/Julius-Motteler). Third doubles was even closer with statesiders Tim Bruin (North Canton, Ohio) and Jonah Carter (Maumee, Ohio) outlasting Daemen's John LeMar (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) and David Gonzalez Villegas (Pereira, Colombia/Liceo Frances de Pereira). John LeMar broke through and put Daemen on the board with a three-set win (2-6, 6-1, 1-0) over senior Jose Fernandez (Sevilla, Spain) in sixth singles.  The individual win moves the Daemen senior to a team-best 3-2 in singles matches this season. But, that was all she wrote for the Wildcats and Walsh claimed wins in first, second, third, fourth and fifth singles.  Gonzalez Villegas hung tough in the top spot but fell 5-7, 3-6 to Vidmanov who garnered second-team All-GLIAC honors last season.  Sophomore Justin Milner (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) took his match at fourth singles to three sets before falling to Garcia, 6-3, 3-6, 0-1. Daemen's 2016-17 season will continue in early February.  The full spring semester schedule will be announced at a later date.
