AMHERST, N.Y. - NCAA Division I member and Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference affiliate Niagara University scored an 8-1 win over Daemen College in non-conference men's tennis action this evening at the Ellicott Tennis Courts.
With the loss, Daemen falls to 0-2 on the young season, while the visiting Purple Eagles improve to 1-0 with the win in their dual-match season debut.
NU opened up a 2-1 lead with a pair of points in doubles action to open the match. Â Felipe Fuentes paired with Josh Wilson to win in first doubles, while Francis Nadeau and Taylan Ozdemir did the same in second doubles.
Daemen avoided the doubles sweep by getting a win in third doubles from the
Andrew LeMar (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) and
Fabian Wilde Crimmitschau, Germany/Julius-Motteler).  The DC duo beat Brent Boleslav and Jason Wisely 8-2, moving to 3-0 as a pair this season.
That's as close as Daemen would get in their bid for the second win against a Division I opponent in team history. Â NU swept all six singles matches to provide the final margin, albeit not without a fight. Â Sophomore
Justin Milner (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) and senior
John LeMar (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) took their respective opponents in the fifth and sixth singles positions to three sets before eventually falling.
Daemen returns to action this weekend by visiting Division III Houghton College on Saturday, October 8.
