Wildcat Bowlers Finish Strong At Golden Bear Classic

Daemen Takes 2 Of 3 Matches On Final Day Of Tourney, Finishes In 11th Place

READING, Pa. - The Daemen College women's bowling team won two out of three matches today on the final day of competition at the Golden Bear Classic hosted by Kutztown University at Bowl-O-Rama.  After going 2-9 on the first two days in 11 Baker style matches, the Wildcats broke through today as play shifted to best-of-seven Baker format series.

The results today meant an 11th place finish, out of 12 competing teams, in the tournament for the Wildcats.  They entered the day with an opportunity to finish as high as ninth or as low as 12th.

The team, in its first year of existence, moves to 13-21 overall this season following today's results.

Daemen opened the day by sweeping Salem International University 4-0 in what was just their second best-of-seven Baker match of the season.  In terms of total pinfall, it was all Wildcats in this one, outscoring their opponents 609-494.

That led to matchup with New Jersey City University, and it was a doozy.  NJCU rallied from a 3-2 deficit, winning the final two games to come out on top, 4-3.  After NJCU struck first (154-143), Daemen came back with wins in the second (165-120) and third (146-102) games.  Daemen gave one back in the fourth (142-115), but put themselves in position for the win after taking the fifth game, 172-131.  But, NJCU out-pinned Daemen 284-256 in the final two frames to pull out the victory.

Daemen rebounded by winning their final match 4-1 over Salem International.  It was Daemen's third win over SIU in the last two days.  The Wildcats took a 2-0 lead in games before SIU got on the board.  But, Daemen closed it out by out-pinning the Tigers 269-244 in the next two games to seal the win.

Daemen gets back to action with a three matches versus Thiel College on February 26 in Greenville, Pa.
