KENMORE, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's bowling team resumed its inaugural season tonight by taking two of three matches against crosstown rival Medaille College at the Mavs' home venue, Classic Lanes. With tonight's results, Daemen moves to 9-11 overall this season.
Tonight's three-match set opened with a pair of team-scored contests. Daemen took the first by a slim 11-pin margin (747-736) and the Wildcats were led by the 163 of freshman
Jess Cunningham (Watervliet, N.Y./Watervliet). Redshirt-freshmen
Julie Mitchell (Alden, N.Y./Alden) and
Kaitlyn O'Hara (Clarence Center, N.Y./Clarence) were strong for the Wildcats as well, bowling scores of 158 and 157, respectively.
The Mavs struck back in match No. 2, scoring a convincing 813-735 victory. The Medaille win came despite a season-best effort from Mitchell (197), while Cunningham (180) and O'Hara (173) each topped their outputs in the opening match as well.
Mitchell's 177.5 average led Daemen in the team-scored contests.
The rubber match was scored via Baker format, and the Wildcats emerged victorious, 792-755. Cunningham led the way with a 20.7 pins-per-frame average. O'Hara was next at 17.1 pins per frame while Mitchell chipped in 14.
Medaille is now 27-24 overall this season. The Mavs and Wildcats have now met seven times this season; Medaille owns a slim 4-3 edge in the series.
Tonight's matches were Daemen's first since sweeping a three-match set versus Thiel College on November 19.
Next up for the Wildcats is the Golden Bear Classic hosted by Kutztown University at Berks Lanes in Reading, Pa from February 12-14. Definitive opponents and match times for the tournament have yet to be announced.
