Men's Tennis

Le Moyne Muscles Past Wildcats, 6-3

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – The Daemen College men's tennis team went at it with Le Moyne College tonight in a non-conference matchup, in which the visiting Dolphins prevailed 6-3 at the Miller Tennis Center.

Daemen started the day off strong, winning two of three doubles matches.
The pairing of Mark Veitengruber (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) and Justin Milner (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca), teamed together for the first time, defeated Le Moyne's Jason Barton and Steven Procopio 8-2 in second doubles.  And, the brother tandem of John LeMar (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) and Andrew LeMar (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) earned their first-ever collegiate victory as a duo, defeating their opponents Tyler Underwood and Benjamin Spoor, 8-5.

The Dolphins' James Gayvert and Hallam Doney beat DC's Joey Gentile (East Amherst, N.Y./Niagara University) and Gregory Lowe (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) in first doubles, 8-1.

With Daemen leading 2-1 following doubles play, the Dolphins would retaliate in singles play, winning five of six matches to come out on top in the dual match. Veitengruber was Daemen's lone singles winner, defeating Gayvert 5-7, 6-3, and 1-0, before the latter retired.  Veitengruber leads the team in singles victories with a season record of 10-6.

The veteran Lowe gave Le Moyne's Stephane Legris a run for his money, losing 7-6 in the first set, and 6-0 in the second. Andrew LeMar and junior Adam Kerr each put up good efforts as well, falling by identical 6-4 and 6-3 scores.

Daemen is now 2-7 overall this season, while the guests pick up their first win of the season against six defeats.

The Wildcats will look to end a five-match winless streak against Edinboro University tomorrow at 5 p.m. in Erie, Pa.
