READING, Pa. - The Daemen College women's bowling team saw its inaugural season come to an end this morning as they were dispatched from the East Coast Conference Championship tournament by Felician College by a 4-2 final in a Baker format best-of-seven match. The match concluded the first double elimination portion of the tournament as Felician advanced into the tournament's final four, joining Kutztown University, Franklin Pierce University and Adelphi University, as the double elimination format resets to determine the conference champion.
Daemen, the No. 6 seed in the tournament following yesterday's round robin portion, started strong today, taking the first Baker game against Felician, 181-172. Felician, the No. 4 seed, rebounded with two-straight wins (161-136 and 186-172), but Daemen rallied to knot the match at two games apiece with a 171-161 victory in the fourth game. Ultimately, Felician closed out the match by winning the next two games, 230-158 and 187-125.
It was Felician's second victory over Daemen at the tournament. The Golden Falcons were also 817-717 winners in a traditional team-style match to conclude round robin play yesterday, and are now 44-62 on the season.
The Wildcats were paced today by the duo of
Jess Cunningham (Watervliet, N.Y./Watervliet) and
Kaitlyn O'Hara (Clarence Center, N.Y./Clarence), Cunningham, a true freshman, racked up a 26.8 pins-per-frame Baker average in the match today, while O'Hara managed 21.3 pins per frame. Cunningham's performance included seven consecutive strikes at one point in the match.
Daemen ends the year with an overall record of 14-31.
The ECC Championship tournament continues this afternoon at Hiester Lanes. It is the first-ever ECC Championship tournament in women's bowling.
