THE LEAD
The Daemen College women's volleyball team hosts 2015 East Region champion N.Y. Institute of Technology on Saturday, Oct. 1, followed by LIU Post on Sunday, Oct. 2...game time for both matches is set to start at 12:00 p.m. at Lumsden Gymnasium...the Wildcats currently lead the ECC after the first weekend of conference action.

ON THE SIDELINES
Daemen:  Stephanie Albano enters her first season as the head women's volleyball coach at Daemen...she was promoted to the position after serving as the Associate Head Coach in 2015...a Western New York native, she led Lancaster High School to the 2004 New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class AA championship...she went on to help the University of North-Carolina-Chapel Hill capture two Atlantic Coast Conference championships throughout her college career (2005-2009)...previously served as an assistant coach at the University of Buffalo in 2014...helped the Bulls to a 17-15 record and the program's first Mid-American Conference Tournament appearance since 2010...began her coaching debut at Canisius College as an assistant from 2009-10...later was the Associate Head Coach at Medaille from 2012-2014...helped the Mavericks earn their first ever AMCC championship and NCAA tournament appearance..assisted by 2014 Daemen graduate Kaley Vazquez and Don Gleason.

NYIT:  Gail Wasmus began her 31st season as the head coach for NYIT in 2016…she was named ECC Coach of the Year in 2015 after the Bears advanced to the Elite 8, a first in program history…Wasmus, who boasts a career coaching record of 571-395, began a 12-year stint at NYIT as the women's athletic director and women's volleyball and basketball coach in 1976…she took over the volleyball program that was just one year old…she left NYIT in 1985 to become the director of an indoor sports complex for eight years…in 1996 she returned to NYIT to coach…since then she has coached her way to 13 winning seasons…in 2010 she was noted the East Coast Conference Coach of the Year…voted NYCAC Coach of the Year in 2002 after the Bears played in their first NYCAC Tournament championship game since 1990.

 
LIU Post: Amanda Ostapow entered her first season as head coach for the Pioneers in 2016… she is the 13th head coach in the history of LIU Post volleyball team…a 2011 graduate of LIU Post, she played three seasons as the Pioneers' starting setter…in 302 sets played, she recorded 2,324 career assists and 550 digs…she takes over for the program's all-time winningest coach Shellane Ogoshi.
DAEMEN SCOUTING REPORT (8-5, 0-2 ECC)
Daemen returns seven players to the 2016 squad while adding seven new faces...four starters return as well as the Wildcats' top libero...the Wildcats were recently voted to finish fourth in the East Conference this season, according to the ECC preseason poll, after compiling a 12-17 overall and 7-9 conference record in 2015...ECC Rookie of the Year Ashley Drzymala, returns as a powerhouse outside hitter after a stellar freshman season...Drzymala led the league in both kills per set (3.60) and service aces per set (0.51) while racking up 12 double-doubles...the Wildcats also welcome back her sister, senior leader Amber Drzymala who finished second on the team in total attacks (934), kills (257) and kills per set (2.60)...junior Katie Mckrell returns at the setting position...the three-time ECC Setter of the Week in 2015 became the fifth player in team history to reach over 1,000 helpers in a single season...rounding out the returning starters is junior middle blocker/right-side hitter Rachel Stephenson who registered 31 blocks, ranking second behind graduate Ye Wang in 2015...sophomore libero Kailey Ballou is back after a strong defensive showing in 2015, highlighting the season with a pair of 22-dig performances...seven newcomers include four who have state championships under their belt, a Division I transfer, a strong setter from a commanding Colorado program, and a 6-foot-2 Romanian Junior National Team player...after going 5-3 over their first eight matches, Daemen has gone 1-2 since Sept. 14...a grueling five-set defeat at Le Moyne opened the span....Daemen held a 2-0 lead before Le Moyne rallied for the five-set victory...Amber Drzymala (18 kills, 12 digs), Ashley Drzymala (11 kills, 14 digs) and Bailey Dolegowski (52 assists, 15 digs) posted double-doubles for Daemen in defeat...the Wildcats rebounded with a 3-0 win at California (Pa.) on Sept. 17...the Drzymala sisters combined for 26 kills while Dolegowski registered 32 assists in the win...Dolegowski (Setter of the Week) and Amber Drzymala (Player of the Week) earned weekly honors from the ECC for Sept. 12-19...Daemen has gone 2-1 since Sept. 17, to be 8-5 on the season and 2-0 in conference action…they opened with three-set loss to a Gannon team that advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament last season… Daemen was led by Ashley Drzymala's 13 kills, eight digs and two service aces…the middle-blocking duo of Cristina Apostol and Courtney Bernard recorded three-blocks apiece, good for season-highs...the Wildcats jumped into ECC play, beating hosts Molloy and Queens College on Sept. 24 and 25…Courtney Bernard paved the way in the win over Molloy with 8 kills, good for a season-high .800 hitting percentage…the Wildcats recorded single digit errors (9) for the first time this season and posted a season-high .354 team hitting percentage…Daemen rallied for a 3-2 victory over Queens after dropping the first two sets…Ashley Drzymala led the Wildcats with a team-high 12 kills, two service aces, eight digs and three blocks…her sister Amber Drzymala added nine kills, three aces and a team-high 15 digs…the Drzymala sisters continue to shine both offensively and defensively this season… Ashley leads the team in kills (153) and kills per set (3.00), ranking sixth among all ECC players in the latter...Amber ranks fifth in the ECC in kills (145) and eighth in kills per set (2.96)…her 137 digs rank second on the team, behind freshman libero Jess Kranz (145)…for her career to date, Amber has posted 959 digs and 814 kills…Dolegowski has paced the Daemen setters with 362 assists, she ranks fifth in the ECC in assists per set (8.04)… in the middle, Bernard leads the league in hitting percentage (.325) heading into this weekend's matches…her 107 kills rank fourth on the team, while she leads the Wildcats in total blocks with 29…additional production has come from Courtney Scanlan (112 kills, .229 hitting percentage), Apostol (69 kills, 20 blocks) and Sydney Macinnis (145 assists).
        
NYIT SCOUTING REPORT (11-2, 1-0 ECC)
The Bears finished last season as East Coast Conference runner-up and NCAA East Region Champions…they matched a program-best overall record of 28-8 in 2015…made their first appearance in the Division II Elite Eight Tournament in program history…NYIT was picked as the favorite in the ECC preseason poll, just beating out four-time reigning ECC Champion Bridgeport…the Bears return 10 players from last year's squad including the Preseason Player of the Year, Karolina Moderova, and reigning ECC Setter of the Year, Allison Fowler…two freshman and two transfer athletes completes the 2016 NYIT team…NYIT is 12-2 on the season and 1-0 in the conference…they opened ECC action on September 13, beating Mercy in straight sets…sophomore transfer Tiffany Verni, led the offense with 13 kills behind a .312 hitting percentage…the Bears won the first 10 matches of the 2016 season before losing to Stonehill on September 17 and Pace on September 20…Moderova leads both the team and conference with 201 kills this season…she also ranks first in service aces per set (0.49) and second in kills per set (3.79) in the ECC…Verni ranks second in kills (178) and third in kills per set (3.36) in the conference…Sophomore libero Portia McIntosh continues to dominate defensively…she has tallied 224 digs, good for 4.67 digs per set…she lists second and fourth in the league respectively…Allison Fowler is the go-to setter this season…she has dished out a team-high 329 assists thus far and sits at second in assists per set (9.40) in the league…senior Rachel Guida shines in the middle with 61 total blocks and 99 kills…she lists second in the league in both hitting percentage (.312) and blocks per set (1.15).

LIU POST SCOUTING REPORT (3-7, 0-1 ECC)
The Pioneers return 8 players from the 2015 squad and welcome 7 fresh faces…they finished 23-11 overall and 10-6 in conference action…four starters return from last year's squad that posted their fourth-straight 20-plus win season…LIU secured a bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament…they were selected to finish third in the ECC preseason poll…junior Danielle Valenza returns after claiming All-ECC first-team and AVCA All-Region Honorable Mention last season…also back is sophomore setter Guilia Genna, she was named All-ECC Honorable Mention after recording the fourth-most assists (1,163) in the conference…the Pioneers began their 2016 campaign with two wins against Cheyney University of Pennsylvania and Nyack College…senior middle hitter Taryn McCullouch had 13 kills and Genna dished out 35 helpers in the two matches…the Pioneers dropped their next seven straight matches before picking up their most recent win over Southern Connecticut State University…Valenza finished with a team-high 15 kills and McCullouch added 13 kills in the win…Genna recorded 33 assists and 15 digs good for a double-double…Valenza ranks fourth in kills per set (3.13) in the conference, and leads the Pioneers with 122 kills…Rachel Londot and Indira Rojas pace the defensively with 124 and 115 digs respectively…Rojas is fifth in the ECC in digs per set with 4.42.
