Women's Bowling Sweeps Thiel In 2017-18 Season Openers

KENMORE, N.Y. - Now in its third season of existence, the Daemen College women's bowling team is off to the first 3-0 start in team history after sweeping three matches from Thiel College this evening at Kenmore Lanes.

The Wildcats, under the leadership of second-year head coach David Zajac, opened up their 2017-18 season with a pair of total pinfall victories over the visiting Tomcats, winning 773-632 and 789-624. They closed today's three-match series with a 4-0 win (172-113, 145-105, 134-129, 156-107) in a best-of-seven Baker format match.

Sophomore Katie Good (Hamburg, N.Y.) paced the Wildcats with a 175.0 average in the two total pinfall matches. Her opening match score of 180 was a team high today.

The Wildcats also got solid play from a pair of freshmen in Madison Rogacki (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) and Alex Hasiotis (Rochester, N.Y.). Rogacki posted a 167.0 total pinfall average, and her second match score of 178 nearly matched Good's team-best effort. Hasiotis registered 163.5 total pinfall average over two matches today.

Redshirt junior Kaitlyn O'Hara (Clarence Center, N.Y.), sophomore Rachel Steele (Rensselaer, N.Y.) and freshmen Katlyn Newberry (Rochester, N.Y.) and Adrianna Pencek (Dunkirk, N.Y.) all saw action in the total pinfall matches as well. O'Hara bowled a 147, while Steele, Newberry and Pencek all rolled identical scores of 136.

Freshmen Alex Syrotynski (East Greenbush, N.Y.) saw action in the best-of-seven Baker series, meaning five of Daemen's six freshmen bowlers competed today.

Today's losses drop Thiel to 0-3 on the season as today's matches marked their 2017-18 season openers as well. The Tomcats are looking to rebound after going 0-42 last season.

Daemen has won nine-straight matches in the all-time series vs. Thiel, improving to 12-5 in the series overall. The Wildcats are also an even 16-16 over their last 32 matches dating back to last season.

Zajac's squad gets its first taste of tournament play in its next outing, the Medaille Tournament, which is slated to be played over two days (Nov. 4-5) at Classic Lanes in Tonawanda, N.Y. More details about the tournament will be released in the days leading up to it.
