Daemen Bowlers Compete At Molloy Baker Challenge

Wildcats Knock Off Host Molloy In Tourney Finale

MINEOLA, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's bowling team took part in tournament action for the second consecutive day, going 1-4 over five matches at the Molloy Baker Challenge held at Sheridan Lanes of Mineola.

The Wildcats broke through in their tourney finale, knocking off tournament host Molloy College 855-803.  The match was tied at 645 apiece heading into the final game when Daemen rallied for a round of 210, the team's highest single-game output over 10 matches this weekend.  The 855 pins knocked down throughout the course of the match was Daemen's best showing since a 931-796 win over Mount Aloysius College on Oct. 16.

Prior to the win over Molloy, Daemen suffered defeats to Felician University (788-742), New Jersey City University (767-695), Long Island University Post (787-786) and Adelphi University (919-838).  Daemen will see Felician, LIU Post and Adelphi at next month's East Coast Conference Championship Tournament.  The loss to LIU Post is the first one-point defeat in team history, and the loss to Adelphi (ranked No. 16 in the latest National Tenpin Coaches Association Collegiate Poll) was Daemen's fourth to a ranked opponent this season.

All told, today's results move Daemen to 11-20 overall this season.  The win over Molloy snapped a nine-match losing skid.

Sophomores Kaitlyn O'Hara (Clarence Center, N.Y./Clarence) and Cassandra Johnson (Buffalo, N.Y./MSTP Seneca), along with freshmen Rachel Steele (Rensselaer, N.Y./Columbia), Katie Good (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) and Megan Racinowski (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Cheektowaga) comprised the Wildcats' lineup in all five matches today.  Good paced the squad with a 17.9 pin-per-frame average as all five matches used Baker-style scoring.  Steele and O'Hara posted averages of 16.0 and 15.3 pins per fame, respectively.

Daemen returns to action next Sunday, March 5 with their final home matches of the season.  The start-up program at Roberts Wesleyan College, which nipped Daemen yesterday (770-765), comes to Transit Lanes for a three-match affair beginning at 7 p.m.
