Andrew LeMar won his third-straight singles match during today's 9-0 win at Franklin Men's Tennis 3/13/2017 11:30:00 PM Mike Miranto, Associate A.D. for Communications Wildcats Earn Second-Straight Shutout Win COLUMBUS, Ind. - The Daemen College men's tennis team returned to action tonight following an eight-day gap between dual matches, defeating host Franklin College in shutout fashion (9-0) at the Tipton Lakes Athletic Club. The win is Daemen's second-straight, both of which have come by identical 9-0 scores marking the first time since mid-October of 2015 that the Wildcats have posted back-to-back shutouts.  The Wildcats, who were coming off a 9-0 defeat of Millersville University on March 5, ups its record to 4-11 this season. Franklin, a member of NCAA Division III and the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, falls to 1-2 this season with tonight's loss.  The Grizzlies were making their spring debut after splitting a pair of dual matches last fall.  Daemen has now won five-straight matches and is 18-10 all-time in matches against Division III opponents. Daemen opened the match by sweeping through doubles play.  Junior Mark Veitengruber (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) teamed with freshman Fabian Wilde (Crimmitschau, Germany/Julius-Motteler) to defeat FC's Alex Hammer and Ethan Caldwell 8-2 on the first doubles court.  In second doubles, sophomores David Gonzalez Villegas (Pereira, Colombia/Liceo Frances de Pereira) and Ricardo Ruiz Martinez (Valencia, Spain/American International College) were 8-5 winners over Blake Amonett and Kyle Sauley.  And, senior Adam Kerr (Penfield, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) and Justin Milner (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) completed the sweep with an  8-4 win in third doubles over Dean Elrod and Alexander Pollard.  The Kerr-Milner duo has now posted three-straight wins and they are unbeaten as a pair this season. Daemen's dominance continued as the match shifted to singles play as all six matchups were decided in straight-sets.  The closest match came at the top of the lineup where Gonzalez Villegas ousted Hammer 6-2, 6-3. In second singles, Veitengruber cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Caldwell.  The Daemen junior now has 31 singles wins in his career - one shy of the program's all-time record set by Gregory Lowe from 2012-16.  He's posted a three-match winning streak individually and leads the team with six singles wins this season. Wilde picked up his second point of the match with a win in the third singles position.  The recent East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week selection downed Amonett 6-1, 6-2. Ruiz Martinez also made it a two-point night personally, defeating Sauley 6-2, 6-1 on the fourth singles court. The LeMar brothers - red-shirt sophomore Andrew LeMar (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) and senior John LeMar (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) - completed the shutout with wins in the fifth and sixth singles positions, respectively.  Andrew was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Elrod, while John won 6-2, 6-1 over Josh Stewart.  The elder LeMar, who broke Lowe's program record for doubles wins in the defeat of Millersville earlier this month, now has 26 singles wins in his career which ranks third all-time. Daemen goes for its third-straight dual-match win tomorrow evening (March 14) when coach Stephen Beatty's team faces its second HCAC opponent (Earlham College) in as many days.  The match is slated to begin at 8:30 p.m. at the Force Sports Center in Dayton, Ohio.Print Friendly Version Players Mentioned Gregory Lowe 5' 9" Senior David Gonzalez Villegas 5' 6" Sophomore Adam Kerr 5' 11" Senior Andrew LeMar 5' 7" Redshirt Sophomore John LeMar 5' 10" Senior Justin Milner 5' 11" Sophomore Mark Veitengruber 6' 0" Junior Fabian Wilde 5' 8" Freshman Ricardo Ruiz Martinez 5' 8" Sophomore Players Mentioned Gregory Lowe 5' 9" Senior David Gonzalez Villegas 5' 6" Sophomore Adam Kerr 5' 11" Senior Andrew LeMar 5' 7" Redshirt Sophomore John LeMar 5' 10" Senior Justin Milner 5' 11" Sophomore Mark Veitengruber 6' 0" Junior Fabian Wilde 5' 8" Freshman Ricardo Ruiz Martinez 5' 8" Sophomore
