Wildcats Suffer Fourth One-Goal Loss Of Season

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's soccer team kept a high-scoring Queens College squad off the scoreboard for over 70 minutes, but a single conceded goal was all it took as the visiting Knights topped Daemen 1-0 in East Coast Conference action at the Williamsville South High School Stadium today.

The loss was Daemen's sixth straight as the Wildcats fall to 4-9-0 on the season, and 2-4-0 in ECC play. It was Daemen's fourth loss by a one-goal difference this season, three of which have come in their recent skid.

Queens, which came into the game as the highest scoring team in the ECC this season, pushed its winning streak to three straight games, improving to 7-4-1 overall and 4-2-0 in the league. The Knights are the eighth opponent that Daemen has played with above a .500 record this season. Only the University of the District of Columbia has played more games against such opponents among all teams in the NCAA Division II East Region.

Daemen held an 8-7 lead in shot attempts at the end of the first half, but Queens stepped up their game in the second, outshooting Daemen 15-1 in the period. Their persistence paid off when Paul Ogoo netted his first goal of the season in the 75th minute. Pedro Lamarre carried the ball into the right side of the box and sent a crossing feed to the middle where it found Ogoo who was all alone in front of the net. Ogoo one-timed the pass over the goal line from only two yards out to put the Knights on top.

The Wildcats generated some good possession, especially late in the contest, but a tying goal was not in the cards.

Philipp Schmidt (Lahr, Germany) matched his career-high with seven saves for the Wildcats. His counterpart, Queens' Michael Bolvin, made one save while recording his second shutout of the season.

Erik Matthews (Galway, N.Y.), Giacomo Bacigalupo (Lavagna, Italy), Niklas Ringdahl Bohlin (Fjaras, Sweden) and Derek Mancuso (Friendship, N.Y.) all recorded two shot attempts for the Wildcats today. Bacigalupo teamed with Victor Lanje (Helsingborg, Sweden), Pontus Lundin (Asmundtorp, Sweden), Pascal Kuhn (Emmendingen, Germany) and Joe LoSapio (Kendall, N.Y.) to provide solid play in Daemen's defensive third.

Daemen returns to action next Wednesday, Oct. 17 when they'll travel to our nation's capital to battle the afore-mentioned UDC.
