Wildcats Fall to Regionally-Ranked LIU Post

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Daemen College men's soccer team fell 4-0 to regionally-ranked Long Island University Post in an East Coast Conference matchup this afternoon at Pioneer Soccer Park.

The loss puts the Wildcats at 4-11 overall and 2-6 in the ECC this season. Daemen has dropped eight straight contests, five of them against teams ranked in their respective regions. The Pioneers, ranked ninth in the latest United Soccer Coaches East Region poll and eighth in the official NCAA Division II East Region rankings, moved to 10-4 overall and 6-2 in the ECC with their victory today.

The Pioneers got two goals from Lukas Ostermann, the ECC scoring leader, as he scored in the 8th and 27th minutes. The first came on a penalty kick, the third Daemen has conceded in the last two games, and his second came from a low driven shot inside the box finishing left.

Senior defender Christian Chavez scored the third goal of the game outside of the box coming off a pass from senior midfielder Vittorio Argeri, who leads the league in assists with seven.

In the 52nd minute, the Pioneers scored the final goal of the game when freshman midfielder Atha Coutroumpas connected on a header from a cross by junior midfielder Khalid Al Saud.

Freshman goalkeeper Ryan Moretta (Buffalo, N.Y.) started his second consecutive game for the Wildcats and made 15 saves, the most for a Daemen goalie since Steve Geffert stopped 12 shots on Sept. 13, 2016 vs. Gannon.

The Wildcats host Mercyhurst in non-conference action on Tuesday, October 23 at 1 p.m. at Karrer Field in the team's penultimate contest of the season.
