Sischo Named ECC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

11/26/2018 12:55:00 PM

AMHERST, N.Y. - Andrew Sischo (Guilderland, N.Y.) of Daemen College has been named the East Coast Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played Nov. 19-25. The official announcement was made via the league's weekly sport report which was released this evening from conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y. It marks the second time this season that Sischo has earned the honor, and the 11th ECC weekly accolade in his career.

Sischo, a 6-foot-9 redshirt sophomore center, led the Wildcats to a 78-71 win over Slippery Rock University on Nov. 24, the team's only game of the week. He scored 31 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the game, shooting 10-for-21 from the field and 11-for-12 from the free throw line. It marked the second 30-point game of Sischo's career as he finished five points shy of his career-high. He has posted five consecutive double-doubles dating back to the end of last season.

The production in Saturday's win was especially impressive as Sischo got the better of his highly anticipated matchup with SRU's Micah Till, a Preseason All-American pick by Street & Smith Magazine. Till put up 21 points on 9-of-22 shooting, and added nine boards and three blocks.

Through four games this season, Sischo is averaging league-highs of 23.0 points and 11.3 rebounds per game. He also ranks second in the league in field goal percentage (60.0%). The early season production has come after Sischo was named the ECC Preseason Player of the Year. He was previously named the league's Player of the Week for Nov. 5-12 after leading Daemen to a pair of wins as part of the ECC-CACC Challenge. Sischo was an eight-time ECC Rookie of the Week honoree, and a one-time ECC Player of the Week honoree last season.

Daemen, which was ranked seventh in last week's Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) East Region media poll, is off to a 3-1 start this season. Expectations are high this season as the Wildcats opened the year ranked No. 22 in the Division II Bulletin preseason national poll, while also receiving votes in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and D2SIDA preseason national polls, and being picked second in the ECC preseason poll

Sischo and the Wildcats return to action this evening (Nov. 26) when they host Lake Erie College for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
