GREENSBURG, Pa. - The Daemen College women's bowling team swept through the competition at the Brother Patrick Lacey Memorial Tournament today, winning five matches en route to earning the first tourney championship in team history. The tournament, held at Hillview Lanes, was hosted by Saint Vincent College. Sophomores
Katie Good (Hamburg, N.Y.) and
Rachel Steele (Rensselear, N.Y.) led the way as each was named to the all-tournament team.
The Wildcats opened things up with a trio of preliminary-round wins, defeating Thiel College (944-637), Ursuline College (828-679) and the University of Pitt-Bradford (885-758). Daemen met UPB again in the semifinals, ousting the Panthers 817-683. In the finals, they met up with East Coast Conference rival Roberts Wesleyan College, and the Wildcats turned them aside with a 796-750 victory. The results today push Daemen's record to 24-6 overall, continuing the strongest season in team history.
Good, who posted a team-best round of 231 in the first win over UPJ, ranked second in the tournament for total pinfall with 917, good for a 183.4 average. Steele recorded rounds of 217 (vs. Thiel) and 204 (vs. Ursuline), and finished fourth in total pinfall (894).
Freshman
Adrianna Pencek (Dunkirk, N.Y.) also recorded a 200+ round today, knocking down 215 pins the first win over UPB. Pencek also posted a team-best 189 in the finals. She was backed up in that one by classmate
Alex Hasiotis (Rochester, N.Y.) who rolled a 186. Freshmen
Madison Rogacki (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) and
Katlyn Newberry (Rochester, N.Y.) also saw action for the Wildcats today.
Daemen returns to dual match play this Tuesday, Feb. 20 when they visit Classic Lanes to take on crosstown rival Medaille College.
