Men's Cross Country Runs To 11th Place Finish

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's cross country team placed 11th in the team standings at today's Yellowjacket Invitational hosted by the Unviersity of Rochester at Genesee Valley Park.

Just seven points separated the first and second place teams today as the State University of New York at Geneseo (49) edged out Ithaca College (56) to sit atop the standings. The College at Brockport (75), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (88) and meet host Rochester (128) rounded out the top five teams today.

Rochester's Hunter Phinney took home individual honors as he placed first with a time of 26:35.1. Sean Kuehn (26:41.1) of Brockport and Sean McAneny (26:42.9) of Geneseo placed second and third, respectively. The 8K race featured 215 total competitors from 16 different teams.

For the second straight race, the Wildcats were paced by sophomore Mike Swiniarski (Akron, N.Y.) who placed 43rd with a time of 28:03.4. Swiniarski was coming off a first place finish at the season-opening Daniel Walker Invitational back on September 1, an effort that earned him East Coast Conference Runner of the Week honors.

Veterans Lucas Canales (Ithaca, N.Y.) and Josh Bodnar (Fillmore, N.Y.) turned in solid efforts as well. Canales, one of three seniors on the roster, placed 62nd today with a time of 28:31.8. Bodnar came in 76th place with a time of 28:56.6.

Newcomer Nate Louk (Jane Lew, W. Va.) and redshirt senior Zach Barnes (Jamestown, N.Y.) rounded out Daemen's competitors. Running the first 8K race of his career, Louk placed 145th with a time of 30:52.3. Barnes placed 194th with a time of 35:11.3.

Daemen will return to Rochester next Saturday, September 22 for the Harry F. Anderson Invitational on the campus of Roberts Wesleyan College.
