Racsumberger's appointment became effective on September 18 as she assumes control of the college's NCAA Division II women's bowling program for the 2018-19 season. "I am excited about the hiring of Carrie Racsumberger," said Murphy. "I am certain that she will be an inspirational leader for our bowlers. Her personal commitment to promoting the sport, passion for the game and connections both locally and in the region will only serve to strengthen our program and its standing within the Western New York bowling community. Her knowledge of the sport and her personal experience as a Daemen graduate will ensure the success of our student-athletes, in both athletics and academics." A native and current resident of Cheektowaga, Racsumberger brings an impressive resume chalked full of bowling accomplishments to her first foray into collegiate coaching, as well as experience in the local youth bowling scene. She is the author of 14, 300 games, and has won numerous state and local championships, including the 2017 Western New York Queens title. In addition to her personal accolades, Racsumberger currently sits on the board of directors for the Western New York Pepsi Traveling Bowling League, a premier league for area youths. She also holds an Associate of Science Degree in Recreation Leadership from Erie Community College, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human and Community Services from the State University of New York (SUNY) Empire State College. "I am very excited about the opportunity to give back to the sport of bowling," said Racsumberger. "Bowling has allowed me to create and cherish memories with many of my past and present family members. I am grateful and honored to become part of the Daemen women's bowling family." Racsumberger's full-time work experience also made her an attractive candidate for the position, according to Murphy. She presently works for Catholic Health at Sisters of Charity Hospital as the program administrator for the Jacobs School of Medicine SUNY at Buffalo OB/GYN Residency Training Program, a position that requires tracking and monitoring of residents, and assisting in improvement plans when needed, similar to what a coach might provide for student-athletes. She also previously worked as a retention specialist for SUNY Empire State College. The new appointee becomes the fourth head coach in team history. She takes over for Marion Singleton who was promoted to the position last spring after serving as an assistant coach during the 2017-18 season. Singleton left during the summer months to pursue other opportunities outside of Buffalo. The Wildcats are set to return all 10 members of the 2017-18 team which achieved a 35-17 record, setting the program benchmark for wins in a season. The team's success included tournament championships at the Brother Patrick Lacey Memorial Tournament and the Molloy College Lion Invitational, and the team's highest-ever finish (fourth place) at the East Coast Conference Championships. The team will begin practice sessions in early October. The team's 2018-19 schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
