FULL RESULTS

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's cross country team took part in the Harry F. Anderson Invitational on the campus of Roberts Wesleyan College today. Paced by sophomore Mike Swiniarski's (Akron, N.Y.)  top-15 finish, the Wildcats placed eighth out of 21 schools.

It marks the second-straight year Daemen has placed eighth at this popular event. The Wildcats placed second among the four NCAA Division II schools entered today. Host Roberts Wesleyan claimed the team title, while Daemen finished just ahead of East Coast Conference rival St. Thomas Aquinas College. Mercyhurst University finished fourth among Division II schools and 12th overall. RWC entered the event ranked fourth in the latest U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II East Region poll, while STAC was ranked 10th.

RWC placed five runners among the top-16 runners and posted a team score of 40 to win the event. SUNY Geneseo, which is ranked 13th nationally among NCAA Division III schools, had three of the top four finishers and came in just one point (41) behind RWC. Cortland State (104), St. Bonaventure University (135) and Fredonia State (170) rounded out the top five.

Junior Tate Jackson of Geneseo took home the individual champion honors with a time of 25:25.6—37 seconds faster than his teammate Ethan Francis who placed second (26:02:5).

Swiniarski, who has now finished first among Daemen runners in all three events this year, placed 14th among the 232 runners. His time of 26:34.9 was a personal-best time for an 8,000-meter race and marks the first time in his brief career that he has finished an 8K race in under 27 minutes.

Junior Josh Bodnar (Fillmore, N.Y.) also posted a top-40 finish for the Wildcats, as he placed 35th with a time of 27:15.9. It ranks as Bodnar's third-best time at an 8K event and was nearly two minutes faster than his time at this event last year (28:49.2). Senior Lucas Canales (Ithaca, N.Y.) also posted a sub-28 minute time (27:55.0) and placed 57th. It marks the fourth time in his last six 8K races that he has finished in less than 28 minutes.

Redshirt sophomore Nate Louk (Jane Lew, W. Va.), freshman Robert Spierling (Endicott, N.Y.) and redshirt senior Zach Barnes (Jamestown, N.Y.) also competed for the Wildcats. Louk, who is in his first season with the team, improved on his 8K time from last week and finished 105th with a time of 29:19.1. Spierling, who has not run since the season-opener on Sept. 1, was right behind Louk and finished 107th with a time of 29:21.9. Barnes also improved on his 8K time from last week and finished 178th (33:44.2).

Daemen is idle until Oct. 6 when it takes part in the Highlander Invitational hosted by the Houghton College.
