CANISIUS ALUMNI CLASSIC - FULL RESULTS

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Redshirt junior Cale Silvestri (Elma, N.Y.) approached career-best territory and earned a top-100 finish to pace the Daemen College men's cross country team today at the Canisius Alumni Classic held at Delaware Park. Daemen placed 12th in the team standings for today's 8K race which was dominated by Division I teams.

Youngstown State University took top honors, both as a team and in the individual results. The Penguins had seven runners finish in the top-14, including race-winner Tyler Polman who crossed the finish line in 25:11.9. Meet host Canisius placed second in the team standings, followed by Detroit Mercy College.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Silvestri placed 99th out of the 158 competitors today as he posted a time of 28:34.5, less than 20 seconds shy of his career-best 8K time (28:17.6) which he set at the East Coast Conference Championships in 2017.
  • Freshman Aidan Van Slycke (Irving, N.Y.) posted his second sub-30-minute 8K of the season, finishing 112th with a new personal-best time of 29:09.1. His previous career-best (29:43.6) came at the Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational on Sept. 14.
  • Freshman John Bruggman (Batavia, N.Y.) also registered a career-best time today, crossing the finish line in 30:15.9 to place 130th. Bruggman shaved nearly a full minute off his previous best time (31:09.1) which was also set Sept. 14.
  • Freshman Dominic Clementi (Barker, N.Y.) and redshirt-freshman Alexander Reynolds (Olean, N.Y.) also figured in the scoring for Daemen today. Clementi made his collegiate debut and placed 141st with a time of 31:24.6. Reynolds rounded out the Wildcats' lineup with a 144th-place finish and a time of 31:48.6.
  • The Wildcats raced without both Mike Swiniarski (Akron, N.Y.) and Josh Bodnar (Fillmore, N.Y.) today as both were held out because of injuries. Swiniarski had been Daemen's top finisher in the previous 10 races.
