EAST COAST CONFERENCE MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP - FULL RESULTS

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Freshman Aidan Van Slycke (Irving, N.Y.) recorded a top-40 effort to lead the Daemen College men's cross country team at the 2019 East Coast Conference Cross Country Championship held today on the campus of Roberts Wesleyan College.

Roberts Wesleyan took top honors for the sixth-straight year after placing six runners among the top seven finishers. They were led by race winner Christopher Simms who paced the field with a time of 26:20.80. The 8K race featured 76 total competitors. Daemen placed sixth as a team.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Slycke placed 37th overall and eighth among all freshmen with a time of 30:04.57. Slycke, who posted a career-best time of 29:01.1 at the Canisius Alumni Classic last weekend, finished a race first among Daemen runners for the first time in his brief career.
  • Freshman John Bruggman (Batavia, N.Y.) and redshirt junior Cale Silvestri (Elma, N.Y.) both posted top-50 efforts today. Bruggman placed 46th with a time of 32.03.94, while Silvestri placed 50th with a time of 32:32.72.
  • Freshmen Alexander Reynolds (Olean, N.Y.) and Dominic Clementi (Barker, N.Y.) also competed for the Wildcats. Reynolds posted a time of 33:08.72 and placed 52nd, while Clementi placed 54th with a time of 33:47.69.
  • The Wildcats raced without both Mike Swiniarski (Akron, N.Y.) and Josh Bodnar (Fillmore, N.Y.) today as both were held out because of injuries. Swiniarski had been Daemen's top finisher in 10-straight races before sitting out the Canisius Alumni Classic last weekend. He earned second-team All-ECC honors after placing ninth at this event last fall with a time of 26:48.20.
