Daemen Sits Atop D2SIDA Men's Basketball Regional Poll

AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's basketball team is ranked No. 1 in the Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) East Region media poll for week one of the 2019-20 which was released today. The Wildcats garnered 57 points and three of the six available first-place votes in the poll voting, edging out No. 2 St. Anselm College (56 points). Daemen and St. Anselm were tied at No. 1 in the preseason regional poll.

It marks the eighth time since the start of the 2018-19 season that Daemen has been ranked No. 1 in the region. The Wildcats spent 13 consecutive weeks ranked in the D2SIDA regional poll last season, including a No. 1 ranking in six of the last seven published polls.

Daemen has opened the 2019-20 season with wins in five of their first six contests. After falling to defending national champion Northwest Missouri State University in their season opener on Nov. 1, the Wildcats have rattled off five straight victories. Most recently, Daemen knocked off defending Atlantic Region champion Mercyhurst University (67-65) and nationally-ranked West Liberty University (98-83) last week. Those wins extended a pair of home court winning streaks for the Wildcats. Daemen has won 11 straight home games overall, and 12 straight non-conference home games. The win over West Liberty, ranked in the top-five of both Division II national polls (No. 4 NABC, No. 3 D2SIDA), marked Daemen's second against a top-five ranked opponent in as many seasons.

The 5-1 Wildcats continue a six-game homestand this week by hosting Le Moyne College (Tuesday, Nov. 19) and Wilmington University (Saturday, Nov. 23). Saturday's contest against Wilmington will be played at KeyBank Center in downtown Buffalo, marking Daemen's first-ever contest there.
