Women's Tennis Goes For Third Straight Win Tuesday

4/1/2019 2:54:00 PM

AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's tennis team takes a modest two-match winning streak into their non-conference contest at Elmira College tomorrow. The match is slated to get underway at 4 p.m. at Elmira's off-campus athletic venue, the Murray Athletic Center in Pine Valley, N.Y.

Daemen (3-17, 0-7 ECC) has posted back-to-back wins over Thiel College (8-1) and Houghton College (6-3), improving to 27-14 all-time against NCAA Division III opponents.

Senior Jessica Robins (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) and sophomore Christina Stasiuk (Bowmansville, N.Y.) have been the catalysts for recent success. Both have won their last two singles matches. Robins ranks third in team history with 66 combined singles/doubles wins in her career, and she stands just one singles win shy of becoming just the third Daemen player with 40 singles victories. In less than two full seasons, Stasiuk has already risen to sixth in team history with 41 combined singles/doubles wins. Her eight singles wins leads the team this season.

The Wildcats' roster has been lengthened this spring with the addition of Sarah Kenny (Perth, Australia), Andrea D'Sa (Bellmore, N.Y.) and Ailish McDevitt (Jamesville, N.Y.), all of whom are multi-sport athletes at Daemen. Kenny has posted two wins in both singles and doubles play. D'Sa earned her first career doubles win in Daemen's defeat of Thiel, and her first career singles win in Daemen's defeat of Houghton.

The Wildcats meet their third straight Division III opponent Tuesday. The Elmira Eagles have posted a 1-11 record so far this season, including a 1-7 mark in Empire 8 Conference play. Five players return from the Eagles' 2017-18 team, including sophomore Katy Jewett who leads the team with a 7-2 record in singles play this season.

The Eagles are led by second-year head coach Rob Clayton, a former NCAA Division III student-athlete at Methodist University.
