Women's Tennis Rides Winning Streak Into Thursday Match At Alfred

4/17/2019 9:12:00 AM

AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's tennis team puts their four-match winning streak on the line Thursday when taking on Alfred University in a non-conference match at the William T. Brown Tennis Courts.

Daemen (5-17, 0-7 ECC) has posted wins in four consecutive matches, including an 8-1 defeat of Oswego State earlier this week. All four victories have come against NCAA Division III opponents.

Senior Jessica Robins (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) and sophomore Christina Stasiuk (Bowmansville, N.Y.) have been the catalysts for recent success. Both have won their last four singles matches.

Robins ranks third in team history with 70 combined singles/doubles wins in her career, and in Monday's win over Oswego State, she appeared in the 100th singles match of her career. With a doubles appearance Thursday at Alfred, she'll join former teammate Hayle Scanlan '17 as the only players in team history with 100 starts in singles and doubles play. Robins holds 41 singles wins in her career, two shy of tying Gretchen Ringler '18 for second in team history.

In less than two full seasons, Stasiuk has already risen to sixth in team history with 45 combined singles/doubles wins. Her 10 singles wins leads the team this season, and she's become just the fourth player in team history to record 10 or more singles wins in back-to-back seasons. Stasiuk set the single-season program record with 18 singles wins during the 2017-18 campaign.

The Wildcats meet their fifth straight Division III opponent Thursday. The Alfred Saxons have posted a 7-7 overall record and a 5-3 mark in Empire 8 Conference play this season. Miranda Sikala has gone 9-1 in singles play this season to pace the Saxons.

The Saxons are led by first-year head coach Jordan Crouch, a former four-year player at Houghton College.
