EAST FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's outdoor track and field team finished in fifth place today at the East Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships out of the eight competing teams. The Wildcats finished with 59 while four-time defending champion Roberts Wesleyan edged out the University of the District of Columbia by one point by a score of 143 points to 142 points.
Taylor Haude (Rochester, N.Y.) had the team's only first place finish today in the pole vault. Haude, who was the indoor champion in pole vaulting, finished with a 3.05-meter jump. Kyra Kress (Wayland, N.Y.) took home the second place finish with a jump of 2.90 meters.
Kress also finished third in the 400-meter hurdles out of 10 runners with a time of 1:07.92.
Katja Meyer (Verona, N.Y.) achieved two top-five finishes in both the long jump and triple jump. Meyer, who was All-ECC during the indoor season, finished second, out of nine, in the triple jump with a 10.49-meter jump and fifth, out of 15, in the long jump with a 4.66-meter jump.
The hammer throw featured two top-five finishers from the the Wildcats in Betty Jones (Camillus, N.Y.) and Hannah Miller (Seneca Falls, N.Y.). Jones finished fourth with a 38.79-meter throw and Miller finished fifth with a 38.64-meter throw. Miller also finished fourth out of 14 in discus with a 32.31-meter throw.
Sam Carro (Canandaigua, N.Y.) and Savannah Warner (Elma, N.Y.) both had fifth place finishes in their events today. Carro finished the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.04 seconds while Warner finished the 800-meter run with a time of 2:24.36. The hurdles featured 11 runners while the 800 featured 17 runners.
Freshman Nazjahe Boswell (Rochester, N.Y.) and Kassandra Nolet (Fort Erie, Ont.) both had sixth place finishes today. Boswell finished the 200-meter dash in 26.89 seconds against 20 other runners and Nolet finished the 1,500-meter run in 5:12.69 out of 17 runners.
The Wildcats will compete in the Buffalo Invitational next weekend on Saturday, April 27.
