ROCHESTER YELLOWJACKET INVITATIONAL - FULL RESULTS
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's cross country team placed 16th out of 18 competing teams at the Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational held at Genesee Valley Park today. It marked the second race of the 2019 season for a young Wildcats team that had three freshmen among their scorers today.
Cornell University, one of three Division I teams in the field, took top honors today after placing all five of their scorers in the top 16 finishers. They were led by race winner Rishabh Prakash who paced the field with a time of 25:45.5. The 8K race featured 219 total competitors.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Junior Mike Swiniarski (Akron, N.Y.) was the top performer for the Wildcats, placing 98th overall with a time of 28:36.4. Swiniarski has now been Daemen's top finisher in nine consecutive races dating back to the 2018 season opener.
- Redshirt junior Cale Silvestri (Elma, N.Y.) ran a season-best time of 29:06.1 and placed 124th. Silvestri, who was making his 11th career appearance, shaved more than a minute-and-a-half off his 8K time from last week's Doug Watts Open.
- Freshmen Aidan Van Slycke (Irving, N.Y.), John Bruggman (Batavia, N.Y.) and Alexander Reynolds (Olean, N.Y.) figured in the scoring for the second consecutive race. Van Slycke posted a sub-30-minute time (29:43.6) for the first time in his career, and placed 156th. Bruggman placed 185th with a time of 31:09.1, some 44 seconds faster than his performance last week. Reynolds crossed the line in 31:39.9, placing 191st.
HEAD COACH PETE GRATIEN POST-RACE COMMENTS
"I thought we showed big improvement in the 2-5 positions this week. Aidan and John had big personal bests, and Cale is beginning to round into form."
