Women's Tennis Resumes 2019-20 Season This Weekend Wildcats Open Spring Campaign Sunday At Mercyhurst 2/13/2020 2:05:00 PM MATCH #11 - SUNDAY, FEB. 16 - 3:30 PM DAEMEN WILDCATS (1-9, 1-4 ECC) vs. MERCYHURST LAKERS (2-0, 2-0 PSAC) ERIE, PA. (WESTWOOD RACQUET CLUB) Here's three things to know about this upcoming match for the Daemen women's tennis team... 1. Sunday's match marks the spring season opener for Daemen as they visit Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference member Mercyhurst. The Wildcats have been idle since their 4-3 win over Roberts Wesleyan back on Oct. 19. That result marked the program's first-ever win against their rivals from Rochester. Erica Jasinski's win in the No. 3 singles position was the difference as she battled out of an 0-3 hole in the third set to defeat RWC's Salome Darsalia and deliver the overall match victory to the Wildcats. 2. Daemen and Mercyhurst will be meeting for just the third time. Mercyhurst came away with wins in each of the prior two meetings - one in Daemen's inaugural season (2012-13) and another during the 2017-18 campaign. The Lakers have qualified for the NCAA tournament in each of the last seven seasons. They are the defending PSAC champions and advanced to the NCAA tournament's second round last spring, finishing the 2018-19 season with an 18-8 record. They picked up where they left off, defeating PSAC foes Kutztown and East Stroudsburg (both 7-0 finals) in their only two duals last fall. The Lakers will host Division I St. Francis (Pa.) on Saturday before closing the weekend against Daemen. 3. Daemen junior Christina Stasiuk achieved two personal milestones during the fall season as she recorded the 50th overall win (combined singles/doubles) and the 30th singles win of her career. Her 50th overall win - a 6-2 doubles win while teaming with Lena Gruber vs. Molloy - made her just the fifth player in team history to reach that total. Her milestone singles win came in the same match as she downed Montaine Le Goupil-Maier 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 to become just the fourth player in team history with 30 singles wins. With still a season-and-a-half to go in her career, Stasiuk ranks among Daemen's all-time leaders in overall wins (5th), singles wins (4th), singles matches (4th), doubles wins (5th) and doubles matches (5th).
