Here's three things to know as the Daemen men's tennis team hosts a pair of matches this weekend...

1. Daemen plays home matches against a pair of Division III opponents this weekend, welcoming Empire 8 Conference affiliate Alfred and State University of New York Athletic Conference affiliate Oswego State to Miller Tennis Center on back-to-back days. The Wildcats have won 13 of their last 14 matches against Division III teams, including a 7-2 win over new Western New York rival Medaille this past weekend. The win came in Daemen's spring season opener, and was the Wildcats' first-ever meeting with the Mavericks who are competing in just the second season in their program history. Four players - seniors Fabian Wilde and James Schaab-Rozbicki, junior Jose Williamson III and freshman Phillip Vance - all earned wins in both singles and doubles action to help Daemen past the Mavericks. Wilde moved up several of Daemen's all-time wins lists in the process, now ranking fourth for combined singles/doubles wins (64), third in singles wins (33) and tied for fourth in doubles wins (31).

2. Vance went 2-0 in singles play and 1-0 in doubles action during Daemen's matches against Medaille and Mercyhurst last weekend. The performances led to his selection as the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week. The Orchard Park native earned wins in both singles and doubles play - the first of his collegiate career - in the win over Medaille. He teamed with Schaab-Rozbicki in the No. 2 doubles position to defeat Matthew Burke and Jonny Pitts of the Mavericks without dropping a game (8-0). He did the same in singles play, ousting Pitts 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4 position. Vance went on to earn Daemen's lone point in a 6-1 loss to Mercyhurst. Again appearing in the No. 4 singles position, Vance downed MU's Kiran Richards 6-4, 6-2.

3. Friday's match marks the spring season opener for Alfred which posted a 2-0 record during their brief fall season. The Saxons own wins over fellow Division III squads Pitt-Bradford (7-2) and Oswego State (5-4), and are coming off a 7-6 campaign in 2018-19. Daemen is 2-0 all-time against the Saxons and the teams will be meeting for the first time since Sept. 15, 2014. Oswego State will also be competing for the first time this semester when they meet Daemen on Saturday. The Lakers posted an 0-3 mark last fall and finished the 2018-19 season with a 5-8 mark. Daemen has won four of their five all-time meetings with the Lakers, including a 9-0 win last April.
