Sischo Repeats As East Region Player Of The Year Redshirt Junior Center Adds To Laundry List Of Accolades 3/13/2020 3:00:00 PM By: By Mike Miranto, Sr. Associate A.D. for External Operations & Communications AMHERST, N.Y. - Redshirt junior center Andrew Sischo (Guilderland, N.Y.) of Daemen College has been named the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (CCA) Men's Basketball East Region Player of the Year as well as to the All-East Region First Team. It marks the second-straight year that Sischo has been dubbed the top player in the region which includes teams from the East Coast Conference, Northeast-10 Conference and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. The announcement today adds to a laundry list of achievements for the 6-foot-9 state capital district product and it comes just a day after the NCAA announced the unprecedented cancellation of the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship which Sischo and the Wildcats were slated to compete in. It was to be Daemen's second-straight NCAA tournament berth. With Sischo as the catalyst, the Wildcats closed their season with a 24-8 overall record, matching the highest win total of the program's NCAA Division II era (2015-present). Sischo was a man amongst boys statistically, averaging 24.9 points and 11.7 rebounds per game while shooting 64.5 percent from the field. He finished as the Division II leader in double-doubles, racking up 22 of them in 31 games played, and also placed himself among the national leaders in rebounds (second) and points (eighth) per game, field goals made (second) and field goal percentage (10th). Not a single Division II player grabbed more total rebounds than Sischo's 362, a total that ranks third in program history and eighth in ECC history for a single season. Sischo also set Daemen and ECC records for total points in a season with 773, a total that ranked fifth in Division II, and he broke a 29 year old Daemen record for single game scoring when he torched Queens College for 47 points in the Wildcats' 90-76 win on March 4. After being named the ECC Preseason Player of the Year in late October, Sischo went on to earn his second ECC Player of the Year selection as well as All-ECC First Team honors for the third-straight season. He was a five-time ECC Player of the Week and a two-time Division II National Player of the Week from the U.S. Basketball Writers Association. He was named to the all-tournament team at the season-opening Small College Basketball National Hall of Fame Classic and again the following weekend at the Daemen-hosted ECC-CACC Challenge. He's also been named to the Bevo Francis Award Top 100 and 50 Watch Lists for the best player in the country from a non-Division I team. In addition, Sischo has recently earned Academic All-District First Team and Academic All-America Second Team honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America. Already Daemen's all-time leader in made field goals (722), Sischo has cemented his place among Daemen's all-time greats as the only player in team history to total at least 1,800 points and 900 rebounds. In 89 games played, he's totaled 1,820 points (fourth all-time), 906 rebounds (fourth all-time), 356 made free throws (seventh all-time) and 88 blocked shots (seventh all-time). He's also posted 47 double-doubles. The Wildcats are 70-22 during Sischo's three seasons on the hardwood. Sischo was joined on the All-East Region First Team by senior guard/forward Bakary Camara (Bridgeport), senior forward Peyton Wejnert (Pace) and senior guards Kylan Guerra (Jefferson) and Will Moreton (Stonehill). The All-East Region Second Team selections include senior forward Chris Hudson (Bentley), redshirt junior forward Bryan Griffin (Mercy), senior guard Nick Corbett (Molloy), junior forward Chris Paul (St. Anselm) and redshirt senior guard Jermaine Head (Wilmington). Sports Information Directors from NCAA Division II East Region schools and conferences selected the two All-Region teams. The process concludes with All-American selections announced in later this month. This is the second year the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association has sponsored the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball All-Region and All-American teams. Daemen College features the only NCAA Division II athletics program in the Buffalo-Niagara region, sponsoring 17 intercollegiate teams.
