The Golden Knights started the day with a 3-0 victory (25-20, 26-24, 25-19) over D'Youville in a neutal site match also played at Lumsden Gymnasium. IMPACT PLAYERS Caitlyn Meyer (Clarence, N.Y.), Maggie Burns (Louisville, Ky.) and Olivia Alessi (East Aurora, N.Y.) all doubled their pleasure to lead the Wildcats today. Meyer put down a match-high 15 kills and added a season-high 14 digs for her third double-double of the season. Meyer, who leads the East Coast Conference in total kills (199) and kills per set (3.69), has recorded 10+ kills in 13 of 15 matches this season, including the last four in a row. Burns continued her hot play on the outside, totaling 13 kills on a team-high 48 attacks. She's now reached double-figure kills in three straight matches, and added 12 digs today for her second straight double-double. She has nine double-doubles this season, all coming in the last 12 matches. The Wildcats also got solid outings out of their middle hitters as junior Loren Alberts (Huntley, Ill.) registered 11 kills and six blocks, and sophomore Vanessa Kuliga (Glenview, Ill.) chipped in a career-high five service aces. Defensively, sophomore Jasmine Brundage (East Aurora, N.Y.) wore the libero jersey and totaled 17 digs. Valeria Jorge paced the Golden Knights with nine kills. Gabriela Boyrié and Elizabeth Johnson totaled 23 digs apiece. THE TURNING POINT Daemen started slowly and was hampered by early hitting errors. The Wildcats committed 12 errors in the opening set, nearly negating the 15 kills they totaled. St. Rose took the set despite putting down only eight kills on a .057 hitting percentage. The Wildcats regrouped in the second frame and got more consistent in their attacks and started scoring off their serves. Daemen totaled seven service aces in the period, including four by Kuliga and two by junior Mickaley Monahan (Saline, Mich.). With Monahan serving, the Wildcats rattled off six straight points, turning their 9-5 lead into a 14-5 advantage that St. Rose never recovered from. The Golden Knights kept things closer in the fourth set, until Daemen went on a 7-4 run to open up a 24-19 lead. The Golden Knights pulled within four before a Burns kill closed the set for the Wildcats. Burns and Alberts put down multiple kills in the opening moments of the fourth set, helping Daemen jump out to a 13-6 lead. The Golden Knights never got closer than five points for the remainder of the set, as Daemen closed on a 5-0 run that included kills by Alessi, Alberts, Allison Post (Windsor, Calif.) and Meyer. Fittingly, Burns tossed in a service ace to close the match - Daemen's 13th of the afternoon, a season-high. Daemen finished with 57 kills on a .173 hitting percentage today, and limited St. Rose to just 30 kills and a .051 hitting percentage.
