The Wildcats, who clinched a conference tournament berth following a 3-0 defeat of Queens (N.Y.) last evening, are winners in 11 of their 13 matches. They improved to 15-7 overall and 8-0 in conference play with today's victory. With just four ECC games remaining on the schedule, the Wildcats are firmly in control of the race for the No. 1 seed in the ECC Championships. The four-team conference tournament  is slated for November 19-20 on the campus of the top seed. The Wildcats have won six straight home matches and are 5-0 at Lumsden Gymnasium this season. Head coach Stephanie Albano has led the program to a 24-5 record in home conference matches in her tenure, and today's win was the 91st of her career. She stands just two wins shy of passing Sally Kus for the second most victories among coaches in team history. Molloy, which claimed the last conference championship (2019), dropped to 9-11 overall and 4-3 in conference. IMPACT PLAYERS Senior outside hitter Sam Logan (Eden, N.Y.) continued her stellar play as she powered down a match-high 15 kills on a .414 hitting percentage. Logan has totaled 175 kills this season, second on the Wildcats. In the last 11 matches, she's averaging a team-high 3.52 kills per set. Right side hitter Caitlyn Meyer (Clarence, N.Y.) added 10 kills on a .318 hitting percentage today. Her production allows her to reclaim the ECC lead in total kills with 251 this season. Meyer has produced 10+ kills in 16 of 22 matches this season. Sophomore setter Olivia Alessi (East Aurora, N.Y.) ran an efficient Daemen offense this afternoon and finished with a match-high 31 assists. Junior outside hitter Maggie Burns (Louisville, Ky.) and sophomore defensive specialist Jasmine Brundage (East Aurora, N.Y.) were key cogs for the Wildcats defense as they combined for 22 of the team's 42 digs (Brundage 12, Burns 10). Burns added seven kills as well. Graciela Cruz put down nine kills and finished without a hitting error (.563 hitting percentage) to lead Molloy. TURNING POINT A 19-8 run spanning the first and second sets really put the Wildcats in control. Daemen built a 17-9 lead in the opening frame, riding the big swings of Logan who accounted for five kills early on. But, Molloy rallied and eventually evened the set at 22-22. Back-to-back kills by Logan and Meyer provided some breathing room, and the set ended with a Molloy attack error. The Wildcats rode that momentum into the second set. They got kills from six different players while establishing a 16-5 lead that Molloy would never overcome. The Lions got within five points, trailing 23-18, but a kill by Vanessa Kuliga (Glenview, Ill.) and a service ace from Logan shut the door. The third set saw more of the same as Daemen built a 17-8 advantage. Molloy managed to pull within 20-15, but the Wildcats rattled off four straight points, including kills from Meyer and Burns, to put their guests on the brink. A Molloy attack error gave the Wildcats the match-clinching point. Daemen totaled 41 kills and had a .255 hitting percentage for the match. The Wildcats had at least 13 kills in all three sets. Molloy managed just 26 kills on a .126 hitting percentage for the entire match. UP NEXT The Wildcats look to take another step towards an unbeaten conference season when they visit long-time rival Roberts Wesleyan on Tuesday, October 26, taking a 13-match series winning streak into the contest. Daemen College features the premier NCAA Division II athletics program in the Buffalo-Niagara region, sponsoring 18 intercollegiate teams.
