Wildcats Look To Clinch Postseason Berth Tuesday

The Daemen women's tennis team will face D'Youville in their final contest of the fall regular season Tuesday. The Wildcats can clinch a berth in this weekend's East Coast Conference Championship tournament with a win over the Saints. It would be a second consecutive postseason berth for the Wildcats. The conference tournament is slated for October 29-30 at Queens College.

Daemen will be looking to snap a four-match slide which was extended this past Friday with a 7-0 setback at conference-leading District of Columbia. A non-conference match scheduled for last Saturday at Bloomsburg was rained out. The Wildcats' last win came in their conference opener vs. Molloy, a 6-1 final on October 3.

Sophomore Frida Rubio leads the Wildcats with 10 combined singles and doubles wins this season. She recently moved into the top 10 in program history for career wins. Freshman Kitsa Scime is tied for second on the team with four singles wins this season, including a three-set defeat of Queens' Mariana Ling on October 8.

Daemen and D'Youville will be meeting for the fifth time since the start of last season. The Wildcats swept all four meetings during the unorthodox 2020-21 season that was greatly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Saints have picked up wins over Fredonia, Alfred and Penn State Altoona, but are 0-6 against NCAA Division II opponents this season. They are coming off a 7-0 loss to District of Columbia this past Saturday.

In the event of inclement weather Tuesday, the match will be moved to the evening and played indoors at Miller Tennis Center.
