HOUGHTON INDOOR MEET — FULL RESULTS
HOUGHTON, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's track and field team opened its 2021-22 indoor season by taking part in the Houghton Indoor Meet held this evening on the campus of Houghton College.
First-place showings by freshman Marcy Colca (Getzville, N.Y.) in the 5,000 meter run and senior Hannah Thomas (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) in the 800 meters highlighted the track portion of the event for Daemen, while a school-record effort by graduate student Betty Jones (Camillus, N.Y.) in the weight throw highlighted the field portion.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Colca, who earned first-team All-East Coast Conference honors in cross country this fall, made the most of her collegiate indoor track debut as she placed first among 17 runners in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 18:01.40. She narrowly missed becoming just the second runner in program history to run the 5,000 meters in less than 18 minutes. Her time still ranks as the second fastest time in program history, behind school-record holder Mackenzie Donahue's 17:00.80.
- Graduate student Kassandra Nolet (Fort Erie, Ont.) also picked up right where she left off after earning first-team all-conference honors in cross country this fall. Nolet and Colca were the only runners to finish the 5,000 meter run in under 19 minutes, as Nolet placed second to Colca with a time of 18:41.69. Freshman Emma Cain (Lockport, N.Y.) and sophomore Camryn Bailey (Geneva, N.Y.) also finished among the top-10 runners in the 5,000 meters. Cain placed sixth (19:48.54) and Bailey finished eighth (19:59.73).

- Sophomore Emma Grzebinski (West Seneca, N.Y.) ran the 600 meters for the first time in her brief career and placed fifth out of seven runners with a time of 1:59.52.
- Jones took part in both the weight throw and shot put. She placed third out of 26 athletes and established a new school record in the weight throw with a toss of 13.15 meters—breaking the previous school record of 13.06 set by Toria Williams in 2015. Jones also posted a top ten finish in the shot put, as she placed 10th out of 24 throwers with a personal-best toss of 9.59 meters.
- Junior Skye Dorcely (Buffalo, N.Y.) also turned in solid efforts in both the weight throw and shot put, posting personal-best efforts in both events. She placed sixth in the weight throw (12.39 meters) and 11th in the shot put (9.48 meters).
