AMHERST, N.Y. - Graduate student Caitlyn Meyer (Clarence, N.Y.) of Daemen College has been named an Honorable Mention All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Meyer is one 115 NCAA Division II student-athletes to be recognized as the AVCA announced its First, Second, Third and Honorable Mention All-American Teams today.

A 6-foot right-side hitter, Meyer has made an immediate impact in her first and only season with the Wildcats after playing four seasons at the Division I level for James Madison University. Appearing in all 32 matches and in 109 of a possible 117 sets this season, Meyer has racked up team-highs of 365 kills and 428.5 points. She ranks second on the team with 74 blocks while adding 231 digs.

Meyer burst onto the scene by being named the East Coast Conference Player of the Week four times, including the first three weeks of the season. She went on to lead the ECC in kills per set (3.35) and was named the ECC Player of the Year and to the All-ECC First Team

Meyer has recorded 10+ kills in 24 matches while recording six double-doubles. She tallied a season-high 23 kills in a five-set loss to Davenport on Sept. 10 and contributed a season-high 24 digs in Daemen's ECC Championship semifinal round victory over Molloy on Nov. 19.

Meyer becomes just the second player of Daemen's NCAA Division II era (2015-present) to garner All-American recognition. She joins 2016 honorable mention selection Ashley Drzymala, and her selection today comes after collecting All-East Region honors from both the AVCA and Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA). Additionally, Meyer earned Academic All-District accolades from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Meyer's efforts this season have helped Daemen claim a trio of championships. The Wildcats raced through the ECC slate, going 12-0 while dropping only one set in the program's first-ever unbeaten conference season. They added an ECC tournament crown with a thrilling five-set victory over Bridgeport on Nov. 20 while Meyer flirted with a rare triple-double (10 kills, nine digs, eight blocks). Daemen then claimed the program's first East Regional title with NCAA tournament wins over Bentley, Stonehill and American International. Meyer contributed 15 kills and 17 digs in the regional championship as the Wildcats snapped AIC's 22-match winning streak to advance to the NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Championship Elite Eight for the first time.

Meyer and the Wildcats return to action Thursday (Dec. 9) when they meet second-seeded Western Washington in the national quarterfinals at the Bob Martinez Athletics Center on the campus of the University of Tampa.
