AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's triathlon team has been named a Scholar All-American Team by the Collegiate Triathlon Coaches Association and USA Triathlon.
The Scholar All-American Team award is given in recognition of teams that excelled in the classroom during the Fall 2020 semester by achieving a collective grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or higher. Teams from across the three NCAA divisions are eligible. The award was calculated by taking averaging each student-athlete's GPA for the semester regardless of competitions completed.
The Daemen women's triathlon team posted a 3.27 GPA for the semester, one of
14 Daemen programs above a 3.0. The team includes seven student-athletes: redshirt senior
Amber Custodi (Ransomville, N.Y.), senior
Savannah Warner (Elma, N.Y.), sophomores
Keagan Carroll (Woodbridge, Va.),
Courtney Merrill (Speedway, Ind.) and
Caitlyn Yap (Kennesaw, Ga.) and first-year students
Bella Buenting (Chanhassen, Minn.) and
Lydia Smith (Williamsport, Pa.).
The Daemen women's triathlon team is in sixth year of existence with head coach Dr.
Jon Metz leading the way from the program's inception. The NCAA deemed triathlon an Emerging Sport for Women in 2014, establishing a 10-year window to grow the sport at the collegiate ranks. At present, Daemen is one of 36 NCAA-member institutions to offer women's triathlon as a varsity sport.
