AMHERST, N.Y. - Sophomore Ben Davis (Rochester, N.Y.) of Daemen College has been named the East Coast Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for matches played March 22-28. The official announcement came in the ECC's weekly sport report which was released this afternoon.

Davis made an immediate impact in his Daemen debut, leading the Wildcats to an 8-1 victory over Houghton at the Kerr-Pegula Field House last Friday evening. Davis teamed with fellow newcomer Sam Greco (Amherst, N.Y.) to defeat HC's Jake Fisler and Micah Schilke 8-2 on the No. 1 doubles court. Davis went on to earn his second win of the day, defeating Fisler in straight sets (6-3, 6-2) on the No. 1 singles court.

It marked Daemen's first match in 380 days and the victory pushed them to 1-0 for just the third time in the nine-year history of the program.

Davis is in his first season at Daemen after beginning his career at Roberts Wesleyan where he appeared in both No. 1 singles and doubles positions for the Redhawks last season before the college announced the shuttering of the program. Davis becomes just the second Daemen player to garner ECC Player of the Week honors since the Wildcats joined the conference for the 2013-14 season, and the first since Ricardo Ruiz Martinez in April of 2019.

Davis will lead the Wildcats back into action this Friday, April 2 when they visit Edinboro for a 3 p.m. match.
