Here's three things to know about upcoming matches for the Daemen women's tennis team...

1. The Daemen women's tennis team is off to the best start in the nine-year history of the program after scoring a pair of victories of D'Youville as well as a non-conference win at Fredonia State. The Wildcats are yet to drop a point in any match, posting a perfect 18-0 mark in singles play and a 9-0 mark in doubles play. They've been led thus far by senior Christina Stasiuk and freshman Frida Rubio who recently swept the East Coast Conference's weekly awards. Stasiuk became the first Daemen player ever to garner ECC Player of the Week accolades after skating through singles play without a dropping a game (6-0, 6-0) in matches vs. D'Youville and Fredonia State last week. Along the way, she passed former Wildcat and current assistant coach Karli Hollins for fourth on the program's all-time wins list (combined singles/doubles). She stands at 60 career wins and is only the fourth player in program history to reach that total, joining Hayle Scanlan (93), Gretchen Ringler (84) and Jessica Robins (72). Rubio is now a two-time ECC Rookie of the Week recipient. In addition to a pair of doubles wins at the top of the lineup with Stasiuk as her partner, Rubio also won two No. 1 singles matches without dropping a game.

2. The Wildcats are likely to face their stiffest tests of the season this week, beginning Friday at Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference member Kutztown. The Golden Bears return six players from their 2019-20 team that went 2-7 before having their final nine matches wiped out by the pandemic. They are off to a 2-4 start this season, including a 2-3 mark in PSAC play, with victories over Shippensburg (7-0) and Lock Haven (7-0). The Golden Bears are coming off consecutive losses to Bloomsburg (5-2) and Jefferson (7-0). Claudia Makarski has posted a 3-2 record in the No. 1 singles position to pace Kutztown so far this season. Friday's match is the first-ever between the Wildcats and Golden Bears.

3. Daemen returns to conference play Saturday when they face St. Thomas Aquinas. The Wildcats will be seeking their first-ever win in the series as the Spartans have won all seven meetings dating back to 2013. STAC returns five players from their 2019-20 team that went 11-7 overall and 3-2 in ECC play while advancing to the semifinal round of the conference tournament. Among the returners is sophomore Eliza Mulder. The Netherlands native earned All-ECC First Team honors as a freshman. After opening their season March 13 with a 7-0 win over New Haven, the Spartans have had several matches postponed due to COVID-19 protocols. They'll face West Chester and D'Youville prior to playing Daemen this week.
