AMHERST, N.Y. - Sophomore Ben Davis (Rochester, N.Y.) of the Daemen College men's tennis team was named to the All-East Coast Conference Team for the 2020-21 season today, following a vote of the league's head coaches.

Davis made an immediate impact in his first season with the Wildcats after beginning his career at rival Roberts Wesleyan. Appearing exclusively in the first singles and doubles position, Davis posted individual records of 5-5 in both singles and doubles play.

Teaming with freshman Sam Greco (Amherst, N.Y.) atop the Daemen doubles lineup, the duo started on a hot streak with three straight wins to open the season. Three of Davis' five doubles wins came against pairs from perennial powerhouse and eventual ECC champion Queens (N.Y.). He and Greco defeated Queens' Mortiz Borges and Mariano Bibiloni on April 10 (6-4), Tim Ostheimer and Eduardo Marino on April 11 (6-2) and then Bibiloni and Kareem Rashad on April 18 (6-4).

In singles play, Davis caught fire towards the end of the season with four straight victories. Included in that stretch were two wins over St. Thomas Aquinas freshman Lennart Lehmann who was named the ECC Player and Rookie of the Year today. Davis defeated Lehmann 6-0, 6-4 in the penultimate regular season match of the season April 26, and followed up with a 6-3, 6-4 win when he and Lehmann met just four days later during Daemen's first-ever conference tournament appearance.

Davis was joined on the All-ECC Team by STAC's Lehmann and Kas Roosch and Queens' Bibiloni, Borges and Ostheimer. He becomes just the third player in program history to garner All-ECC recognition. Past honorees from Daemen include Davis' teammate Patrick O'Brien (Pittsford, N.Y.) - an All-ECC second team selection for the 2018-19 season - and 2019 graduate Ricardo Ruiz Martinez who earned All-ECC second team honors in back-to-back seasons (2016-17, 2017-18).
