The loss snapped Daemen modest two-match winning streak, dropping the Wildcats to 2-3 this season. Davenport, which dropped a 3-1 decision to Mercyhurst earlier today, improved to 3-3. Their victory snapped a three-match losing streak. IMPACT PLAYERS The loss spoiled a tremendous individual effort from Daemen right side Caitlyn Meyer (Clarence, N.Y.). The graduate student recorded a career-high 23 kills - the most for any Daemen player since Ashley Drzymala put down 25 kills vs. New York Tech on Oct. 1, 2016. Meyer's production came on 53 total attempts as she recorded a .302 hitting percentage. Her previous career-high for kills (14) was set last season while she competed for James Madison. Allison Post (Windsor, Calif.) and Maggie Burns (Louisville, Ky.) added 14 and 11 kills, respectively. Olivia Alessi (East Aurora, N.Y.) continued to see time as the Wildcats' primary setter. She responded with 50 assists and 14 digs - both career-highs - for the first double-double of her career. The Wildcats also got career-best production from sophomore defensive specialist Jasmine Brundage (East Aurora, N.Y.). The reigning East Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week notched 31 digs - nine better than her previous career-high set last season. Riley Groves, Hayley Kreiger and Emmy Webb totaled 10 kills each to pace a balanced Davenport offense. Megan Herr and Emma Turnquist narrowly missed double figures, posting nine kills apiece. Setter Nicole Odeen totaled 31 assists and 11 digs, while libero Kenzy Corstange posted a team-high 25 digs. INSIDE THE BOX SCORE Daemen totaled 66 kills in the match, compared to just 52 for the Panthers. But, the Wildcats committed 30 hitting errors - double the amount of Davenport. While rallying from 2-1 deficit in sets, Davenport committed just three hitting errors and posted a .264 hitting percentage in the pivotal fourth and fifth sets combined. In the same periods, Daemen was errant on 16 attacks and hit just .085. Davenport produced at the net, totaling nine blocks to just two for the Wildcats. GAME NOTES Today's match marked just the second all-time meeting between the Wildcats and Panthers, and the first since Oct. 3, 2008. Davenport leads the series 2-0. Davenport posted an 11-7 record during the abbreviated 2020 season, and was picked fourth in the GLIAC South Division preseason coaches' poll, while Daemen was picked second in the ECC preseason coaches' poll. The Cavalier Invitational is the second of three tournaments that Daemen will compete in this season. They opened the season by splitting four matches last weekend at the Warrior Invitational hosted by Wayne State, and next weekend will play in the Redhawks Invitational at Roberts Wesleyan. Daemen's 18-player roster includes 12 returning players, three of whom - Allison Post, Sam Logan and Ali Cousins - remain from the Wildcats' 2018 NCAA tournament team. Meyer is producing 3.63 kills per set on a .311 hitting percentage through her first five matches with the Wildcats. Senior outside hitter Sam Logan (Eden, N.Y.) recorded the 500th kill of her career tonight. UP NEXT Daemen looks to jump back in the win column tomorrow when they wrap up the Cavalier Invitational with matches against Notre Dame (Ohio) (10 a.m.) and Mercyhurst (4 p.m.).
