Allegheny 9/13/2021 1:45:00 PM Match #3 Daemen Wildcats (1-1, 0-0 ECC) vs. Allegheny Gators (1-1, 0-0 NCAC) Date: Tuesday, Sept. 14 Time: 12 p.m. Location: Williamsville, N.Y. | Williamsville South HS Courts FIVE THINGS TO KNOW 1. HOMESTAND CONCLUDES Daemen's season-opening homestand wraps up Tuesday when they welcome NCAA Division III member Allegheny to Western New York. The Wildcats have split the first two matches of the 2021-22 season, defeating RIT (4-3) last Tuesday before falling to Walsh (7-0) over the weekend. The win over RIT marked a successful debut for Wildcat head coach Richard Greco, Jr. who was named to the position earlier this summer. He became the third coach in program history to win his first match. Greco, Jr. has the luxury of five returning players on the roster, including All-ECC selection Frida Rubio, as well as newcomers Kitsa Scime and Yinett Del Leon who are expected to make immediate contributions this season. 2. DIVISION III WINNING STREAK The Wildcats will put a six-match winning streak against NCAA Division III opponents on the line Tuesday against Allegheny. Daemen is 31-14 all-time against Division III teams with half of their losses coming in the program's inaugural season. Daemen's last loss to a Division III opponent was a 7-2 final vs. RIT on March 5, 2018. 3. CREEPING CLOSER Christina Stasiuk's singles victory last Tuesday vs. RIT was the 40th of her career. She is only the fourth player in program history to reach that total, and she stands seven singles wins shy of all-time leader Hayle Scanlan (47). With 29 doubles wins in her career, Stasiuk is close to becoming just the fifth player in to reach the 30-win mark. Her 69 combined singles/doubles victories rank fourth in program history. Only Scanlan (93), Gretchen Ringler (84) and Jessica Robins (72) have won more matches in a Wildcat uniform. 4. AROUND THE ECC Four of the six East Coast Conference teams opened their seasons last week, including Molloy and District of Columbia which are competing for the first time since the 2019-20 season. Both Queens (N.Y.) and St. Thomas Aquinas - the ECC Championship finalists last season and the favorites again this year - will wait until later this month to make their season debuts. Daemen was picked fourth in the ECC preseason coaches' poll. The Wildcats play their first conference match of the season September 25 at Molloy. 5. ON THE HORIZON A busy week continues as the Wildcats take a hiatus from dual matches to compete in the ITA East Region Championships being held Sept. 17-20 at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center - site of the U.S. Open - in Flushing, N.Y. ALLEGHENY GATORS SCOUTING REPORT Allegheny is a member of NCAA Division III and the North Coast Athletic Conference.
