AMHERST, N.Y. -
Caitlyn Meyer (Clarence, N.Y.) and
Jasmine Brundage (East Aurora, N.Y.) of Daemen College were each among the recipients for East Coast Conference weekly awards which were announced today in the league's
first sport report of the 2021 season. Meyer was named the ECC Player of the Week and Brundage was selected as the ECC Defensive Player of the Week. Both Meyer and Brundage were key contributors during Daemen's opening road trip of the season which saw the Wildcats post a 2-2 record at the
Warrior Invitational hosted this past weekend by Wayne State.
Meyer, a 6-foot right side hitter, was Daemen's lone representative on the
Warrior Invitational All-Tournament Team after she appeared in all 14 sets and produced a team-high 46 kills (3.29 kills/set). It was a successful debut in the Daemen blue and white for the graduate student who is utilizing an additional season of eligibility after beginning her career at James Madision University.
Meyer posted 10+ kills in three of Daemen's four matches, including 16 in a three-set whitewash of West Liberty. That performance capped the Wildcats' sweep of their Saturday matches, and came just after she had recorded 14 kills in four-set victory over East Stroudsburg. Meyer posted a .315 hitting percentage for the weekend - the highest for any of the Wildcats' primary attackers.
Brundage, a 5-foot-5 sophomore, saw her most extensive action as the Wildcats' libero and responded with a team-high 54 digs (3.86 digs/set) for the weekend. After totaling 25 digs combined in Friday losses to Walsh and Wayne State, Brundage came back with 20 digs - two shy of her career-high - in the win over defending Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference champion ESU. She added nine digs in the win over West Liberty.
Brundage's defensive efforts helped the Wildcats limit their two Saturday opponents to an .095 hitting percentage. ESU managed just an .055 hitting percentage - the first time Daemen has held an opponent below .060 since November 16, 2019 (Roberts Wesleyan, .038).
Meyer, Brundage and the rest of the Wildcats return to action this Friday, September 10 when they meet Davenport in the first of three matches this weekend at the
Cavalier Invitational hosted by Walsh.
