AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen College ranks seventh in the initial regional merit rating index for the 2021-22 season published earlier this week by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The Track and Field Rating Index (TFRI) is a weighted formula that assigns points for each participating team based upon the individual performances of student-athletes when compared to the remainder of the region.

Daemen amassed 127.54 points in this week's rating index and is the top-ranked team from the East Coast Conference. The East Region is comprised of teams from the ECC as well as the Northeast 10 Conference and one independent. The Wildcats just outrank ECC foe St. Thomas Aquinas (126.81 points) while NE10 teams occupy the first six spots in the rankings. American International sits atop with 276.98 points, followed by Southern New Hampshire (262.19), New Haven (235.73) and Stonehill (213.53).

Fifteen individual athletes competing across 10 events account for Daemen's point total to date. The Wildcats' highest scored event is the 5,000 meters where Marcy Colca (Getzville, N.Y.), Kassandra Nolet (Fort Erie, Ont.), Emma Cain (Lockport, N.Y.), Camryn Bailey (Geneva, N.Y.) and Emma Grzebinski (West Seneca, N.Y.) combined for 83.16 points. Colca's time of 17:53.19 ranks first among all East Region runners so far this season, while Nolet's time of 18:33.17 ranks second. Both times were recorded at the Houghton Indoor Meet on December 3.

Nolet also accounts for 11.58 points thanks to her best performance in the mile run. The graduate student posted a time of 5:17.72 at the Highlander Invitational this past weekend - sixth fastest in the East Region to date this season.

In field events, Daemen's top point-getters this week are thrower Betty Jones (Camillus, N.Y.) and jumper Sydney Taylor (Brockport, N.Y.). Jones' throw of 13.15 meters in the weight throw ranks seventh in the region, accounting for 10.03 points. Taylor earns 6.27 points for her effort in the high jump this past weekend when she set a new program record at 1.51 meters. The mark is tied for 10th best in the region.

Daemen returns to action this Saturday, January 29 at the Robert J. Kane Invitational hosted by Cornell University.
