AMHERST, N.Y. - Kassandra Nolet (Fort Erie, Ont.) of Daemen University has been named the East Coast Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week for competitions held December 5-11. The announcement of ECC weekly awards was made this afternoon in the league's weekly sport report.
It marks the second time in her career she has earned the honor. Nolet is also the last student-athlete from the Daemen women's track & field team to collect the honor during the indoor season. She last earned ECC Women's Track Athlete of the Week honors in February of 2020 after placing first in the 5,000 meters at the Brockport Multi.
She is one of only five athletes in the history of the Daemen women's track and field program to garner a weekly award from the ECC during the indoor track and field season—and the first to earn a weekly honor more than once. She joins past honorees Jordan Weir (Track Athlete of the Week: Feb. 11, 2013), Toria Williams (Field Athlete of the Week: Feb. 2, 2015), Mackenzie Donahue (Track Athlete of the Week: Feb. 8, 2016) and Katja Meyer (Field Athlete of the Week: Jan. 22, 2019).
Nolet made her 2022-23 track & field debut this past Friday and placed third out of 21 runners in the mile at the Nazareth Alumni Opener. She posted a personal best time of 5:15.65—eclipsing her previous best time of 15:17.19 that she posted at the Brockport Multi last February.
Nolet recently completed a memorable season with the Daemen women's cross country team. She collected first team All-ECC honors for the second-straight year and also became the first runner from Daemen to earn ECC Runner of the Year honors after placing first at the ECC Championships. A three-time all-conference performer in cross country, she led the Wildcat harriers to a third place showing at the NCAA Division II East Regional and a first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II Championships this fall.
The Daemen track & field teams will be idle until Jan. 21 when they head to Houghton University to take part in the Highlander Invitational.
