Wildcats & Gators Meet Tuesday In The Keystone State

4/18/2022 10:06:00 AM

AMHERST, N.Y. – The Daemen University men's tennis team opens the final week of the 2021-22 regular season with a non-conference match late Tuesday afternoon (4 p.m.) against the Allegheny Gators. Tuesday's match is the result of a postponed meeting between the teams back on February 23.

The Wildcats (3-14, 0-5 ECC) will be looking to snap a six-match slide and are coming off a pair of 7-0 defeats to East Coast Conference foe St. Thomas Aquinas last week. Zachary Laplante and Phillip Vance teamed up for a win on the No. 2 doubles court in last week's first meeting with the Spartans.

Laplante and Vance lead Daemen with six doubles wins each this season - all of which have come while paired together. Laplante has made an immediate impact in his first season with the program after transferring from Salem University (W.Va.). He leads the team with 11 combined singles and doubles victories. Fellow newcomer Luis de Vuyst has totaled 10, as has Vance who surpassed the 20-win mark for his career earlier this season.

Allegheny is a member of NCAA Division III and the North Coast Athletic Conference. The Gators have won two of their last three matches, but are coming off a 7-2 setback Kenyon this past weekend. The Gators have been led this season by freshman Anton Hedlund who owns seven singles victories, including six in the No. 1 position of their lineup.

Following Tuesday's match, the Wildcats will head to New York City for a conference clash with Queens Saturday afternoon to close the regular season.
