Women's Tennis Faces D’Youville Sunday

Stasiuk To Be Honored For Senior Day

AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen University women's tennis team looks to win their third match out of their last four outings in a non-conference dual match Sunday (1 p.m.) against the D'Youville Saints at the Village Glen Tennis Club in Williamsville, N.Y.

The Wildcats fell to 6-10 on the season following a 6-3 loss at RIT on Sunday. Graduate student Christina Stasiuk (Bowmansville, N.Y.) helped the Wildcats pick up two of their three wins – first, in second doubles play with Yinett Del Leon (Cape Coral, Fla.) and then in second singles.

Despite the team loss, Daemen graduate student Christina Stasiuk (Bowmansville, N.Y.) continued to make her mark on the program's record books after recording wins in singles and doubles play. With a win over RIT's Gabby Donahue in second singles, Stasiuk passed Hayle Scanlan '17 as Daemen's all-time leader in singles wins (48.) Stasiuk also passed Gretchen Ringler '18 for second in combined singles / doubles wins (85.) While Daemen is serving as the road team Sunday, Stasiuk will be honored in a Senior Day ceremony prior to the match as this is the final time she is competing in Western New York.

Stasiuk is still unbeaten in singles play this spring and improved to 9-5 in singles play on the year. She now has a team-high 18 combined singles / doubles wins this season, currently one ahead of teammate Frida Rubio (San Diego, Calif.)

Rubio, the 2020-21 ECC Rookie of the Year, became the seventh player in program history to reach 30 career wins with victories in singles and doubles play and recorded her 31st career win in first singles Sunday at RIT.

The Wildcats are meeting D'Youville for a second time this season. Daemen scored a 7-0 win over the Saints on Oct. 26, which earned them the fourth and final spot in the East Coast Conference tournament. Daemen has won all six life-time meetings entering Sunday and have won 43 of 44 total matches in singles and doubles play since the series began on September 18, 2013.

The Saints are led by head coach Sydney Rice who is in her first season with the program. The roster includes seven returning players from their 2020-21 team and the Saints have posted a 3-7 record so far this season. Sunday marks just one of two matches for the Saints this spring and the program is searching for their first victory since a 5-2 finish versus Penn State – Altoona on September 18, 2021.
