Wildcats And Dolphins End In 0-0 Tie

AMHERST, N.Y. – Through a steady downpour at Karrer Field on Tuesday afternoon, Daemen University and Le Moyne College played a defensive battle that ended in a 0-0 tie. The Wildcats move to 0-1-1 on the season. The Dolphins move to 1-0-1. The NCAA instituted a rule change prior to the start of this season that regular-season games will not go to overtime and the game will end after 90 minutes of play. Overtime will still take place during post-season games when a winner must be determined.

Tuesday's matchup was the sixth meeting between Daemen and Le Moyne, and the first since Sept. 11, 2019. Le Moyne is a member of the Northeast 10 Conference, and is the second-straight NE10 team the Wildcats have faced so far this year.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Wildcats controlled the pace of play for the majority of the game, and out-shot the Dolphins 5-0 at the half. Daemen went on to finish with 15-3 advantage in shots overall (9-1 in shots on goal).
  • Daemen's best chance for a goal came in the 53rd minute of play when Le Moyne goalie Allison Moreau made a diving save of graduate student Grace Stranahan (Grand Island, N.Y.)'s penalty kick.
  • Daemen goaltender Tori DeLappi (Medina, Ohio) made one save on three shots faced.
  • Moreau was a brick wall between the pipes for Le Moyne, stopping nine of Daemen's 15 shots, including a late shot in the final 30 seconds from senior Nicole Grichen (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) that would have been the game winner for the Wildcats.

GAME NOTES

  • The last time the Wildcats finished a game with a 0-0 tie was Oct. 26, 2019 against Roberts Wesleyan after two overtimes.
  • Today was the sixth all-time meeting between Daemen and Le Moyne. The Dolphins lead the series 4-1-1, but the Wildcats won the last matchup 3-1 on Sept. 11, 2019.
  • Six Wildcats played for the entire 90 minutes. Freshman midfielder Nevada Hahn (Lancaster, N.Y.) returned to the starting lineup after shining in her collegiate debut on Saturday. Senior defenders Julia Eichel (Grand Island, N.Y.) and Grichen played the full 90 as well along with DeLappi. Graduate student Grace Stranahan (Grand Island) and junior Madita Zeitz (Malsch, Germany) started as midfielders and also played the entire game.
  • Two Daemen players attributed for eight of the 15 shots this afternoon. Grichen and sophomore Alyssa Diaz (Rochester, N.Y.) had four shots a piece during the game.
  • Coming off her 10th career goal on Saturday against Saint Rose, junior Brooke Amato (Grand Island, N.Y.) finished the game with three shots on goal during 53 minutes of play.
  • After making eight saves against nationally-ranked Saint Rose on Saturday, DeLappi appeared in her 24th career game today.
