The Wildcats earned their second consecutive team win in the Daemen Alumni Invitational at Bassett Park in Williamsville on Saturday morning. DAEMEN ALUMNI INVITATIONAL FULL RESULTS Along with taking home the championship, the Wildcats placed seven runners in the top-10 for the second straight meet, and placed the top three finishers in the race. Sophomore Marcy Colca (Getzville, N.Y.) earned a personal best time (18:40.8) and led the field of 70 runners to win her second consecutive meet. Graduate student Kassandra Nolet (Fort Erie, Ont.) finished second behind Colca for the second time this season, posting a second-place time of 18:58.2. Senior Courtney Merrill (Speedway, Ind.) earned her highest finish of the season, placing third overall with a time of 19:28.8. Freshman Patsy Oberholzer (Greece, N.Y.) ran the first 5K of her collegiate career today. She placed sixth with a time of 19:40.2. Junior Camryn Bailey (Geneva, N.Y.) finished nine seconds later, finishing seventh overall at 19:49.6. Redshirt senior Hannah Thomas (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) and sophomore Emma Cain (Lockport, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring for the Wildcats, with Thomas coming in eighth with a time of 20:01.6 and Cain finishing right behind her in ninth place at 20:04.4. Daemen was one of six teams participating in the Daemen Alumni Invitational this morning. The Wildcats, which placed seven runners in the top 10, posted a total of 19 points to take home the team title. California (Pa.) placed second (43), followed by Houghton (88), D'Youville (107), Medaille (152) and Hilbert (162). The Wildcats took home four first-place finishes last season. This is the second consecutive year that Daemen has won back-to-back championships to open up the season (2021 started with first place finishes in the Frank Dillon Memorial Invitational and Daemen Duels meets). Daemen has a week off next weekend, but will run in the Equality Invitational in two weeks on Sunday, Sept. 25 in Colchester, V.T. hosted by St. Michael's. The men and women will all race the same distance -- 8K -- in the Equality Invitational. HIGHLIGHTS Daemen had a total of 15 runners compete today. Colca ran a personal best in the Daemen Alumni Invitational today. She shaved 14 seconds off her previous PR (18:54.9) that came at the 2021 East Coast Conference Championship. Colca earned her second consecutive first-place finish, and the third of her career. This is also her first victory in a 5K race, with her two previous first-place finishes coming at the 2021 and 2022 Frank Dillon Memorial Invitational 4K race. Colca earned Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week in the East Coast Conference weekly awards on Tuesday. Nolet, a graduate student, competed in her 21st race of her career. She finished in second place behind Colca at the Frank Dillon Memorial Invitational in the season opener last weekend. Thomas earned a career-high finish with her ninth place spot today, finishing one place ahead of her previous career-high (10th) last weekend. Freshman Madeline Straub (Olean, N.Y.) earned her career-high finish, coming in 12th overall and eighth on the team with a time of 20:40.5. Juniors Haley Hinds (Blossvale, N.Y.) and Emma Grzebinski (West Seneca, N.Y.) finished in the top 20 today. Hinds posted a time of 21:12.4 to finish in 17th, Grzebinski ended in 20th at 21:26.4. Freshman Hayley Pizur (Grand Island, N.Y.) earned a career-high finish in her first collegiate 5K race, coming in 28th with a time of 22:12.7. Fellow freshman Kennedy Pino (Spencerport, N.Y.) finished 36th at 23:28.0. Junior Neissa Raymond (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and graduate student Amanda Bushway (East Aurora, N.Y.) also figured into the race today. Raymond finished 34th with a time of 23:26.1, while Bushway finished 38th with a time of 23:37.9. Senior Keagan Carroll (Woodbridge, P.A.) rounded out the Daemen runners and placed 47th with a time of 25:09.8. Print Friendly Version
