BACK IN ACTION
Daemen returns to East Coast Conference play Saturday (Sept. 17) when the Wildcats play at Queens.

LAST TIME OUT
Nationally-ranked Southern New Hampshire remained unbeaten on the year following a 3-0 victory over Daemen this past Wednesday at Penmen Stadium on the SNHU campus. SNHU, which entered the game ranked second in the East Region and 13th nationally by the United Soccer Coaches, improved to 4-0-0, while Daemen fell to 0-5-1. The host Penmen opened a 1-0 lead just 4:10 into the contest off a free kick following a Daemen foul. Senior Morgan Siechen took the kick on the right flank from 30 yards out and snuck a shot just inside the right goalpost. Daemen's best scoring chance in the first half came in the 31st minute when sophomore Lily Williams (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) got in behind the SNHU defense, but her shot from 20 yards out was saved by Penmen goaltender Claudia Keith. The Penmen doubled their lead with just 30 seconds left in the first half. Senior Allison Beamont took a pass at the top of the Daemen box, beat a Daemen defender and sent a shot past Daemen goaltender Tori DeLappi (Medina, Ohio). It marked the team-leading third goal of the year for Beaumont. SNHU closed out the scoring in the 60th minute off a goal by freshman Arianna Georgantas. SNHU finished with a 23-4 edge in total shots and a 12-4 advantage in shots on goal. DeLappi played 62 minutes for Daemen and made five saves. Freshman Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) played the final 28 minutes and made four saves. Four of Daemen's first six opponents are currently ranked in the USC East Region poll.

RETURNING VETERANS
Daemen returns 20 players from its 2021 team, including six who collected All-ECC honors last year. Experience is abundant, as the team features two graduate students, seven seniors and five juniors. The team's top five scorers from last year all return to the pitch this fall. Senior Tatyjana Scalisi (Williamsville, N.Y.) and sophomore Alyssa Diaz (Rochester, N.Y.) accounted for 13 of the team's 34 goals last year and
both earned first team All-ECC honors. Scalisi also earned all-region honors, while Diaz became the first player in program history to be named the ECC Rookie of the Year. All-conference defenders Julia Eichel (Grand Island, N.Y.) and Baylin Tighe (Tonawanda, N.Y.) return after heading up a backline that surrendered just 20 goals in 16 games last year. Senior goalkeeper Tori DeLappi (Medina, Ohio) is coming off an all-conference junior season in which she averaged five saves a game and posted a 1.27 goals against average. Graduate students Grace Stranahan and Katelyn Sidoti will serve as teams captains for 2022.

POLLS, POLLS, POLLS
Daemen women's soccer has been picked to finish third in the ECC this season according to the league's preseason poll which was released on August 16. The No. 3 preseason ranking ties for the highest in program history since the Wildcats joined the ECC in 2013. Daemen was also ranked third in the ECC preseason poll in 2019. Mercy and Molloy both collected four first place votes and Mercy edged Molloy for the top spot in the poll with 75 points. Both Mercy and Molloy posted an 8-1-0 league record last year and Molloy earned the ECC Tournament title following a double overtime win over Mercy. Daemen collected one first place vote and earned 66 points, while Roberts Wesleyan (57) and Queens (39) rounded out the top five.

ON THE HORIZON
Daemen returns to non-conference play Wednesday (Sept. 21) when it travels to Cedarville, Ohio for a match against Cedarville University.

SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS
Queens was idle this week and is coming off a 1-0 loss at D'Youville last Saturday. The Knights are winless (0-5-0, 0-1-0 ECC) on the year, with three of the five losses decided by just one goal. Queens went 3-8-2 overall (2-6-1 ECC) last year. The Knights were picked fifth in the 2022 ECC preseason poll. They opened the 2022 season with non-league losses to Dominican (2-1), Chestnut Hill (1-0), Saint Michael's (2-0) and Post (3-1), before opening ECC play with the loss to D'Youville. Sophomore Julia Ragone netted QC's goal in the season-opening loss to Dominican, while graduate student Synne Flem scored in the loss to Post. Junior Ariana Vargas has played every minute in goal thus far (1.80 GAA) and made a season-high seven saves in the loss to Saint Michael's.
