YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Daemen University women's track and field team took part in the Youngstown State University Mid Major Invitational held today at Watson and Tressel Training Site on the YSU campus.

A school-record efforts by sophomore Alyssa Amirato (Depew, N.Y.) in the long jump and a first-place showing by graduate student Kassandra Nolet (Fort Erie, Ontario) in the 1,000 meters highlighted the day for the Wildcats. Sophomore Elizabeth Bentley (Belmont, N.Y.) also turned in a solid effort in the weight throw, narrowly missing a school record in the event.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Amirato, who set the program record for the triple jump (10.75 meters) earlier this year at the Houghton December Classic, posted a jump of 5.02 meters in the long jump today which placed her 13th out of 41 entrants. The effort eclipsed the previous program standard of 4.93 meters set by Katja Meyer at the RIT Invitational on January 12, 2019 and the Brockport Multi and Invitational on January 26, 2019. Amirato's previous best effort in the long jump at an indoor event was 4.90 meters at the Houghton December Classic earlier this year.
  • Bentley placed 22nd out of 60 entrants in the weight throw with a throw of 13.17 meters. The effort was just shy of the school record (13.73 meters) set by Skye Dorcely (Buffalo, N.Y.) at the 2022 East Coast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. Bentley's previous best effort in the weight throw at an indoor event was 12.29 meters at the Highlander Invitational last weekend.

It marks the third time this season Nolet has posted a top three finish. She placed first in the mile at last weekend's Highlander Invitational with a time of 5:17.99 and finished third in the mile at the Nazareth Alumni Invitational with a personal best time of 5:15.65.
