Box Score EDINBORO, Pa. -- The Daemen University women's tennis team suffered a 4-3 loss to Edinboro on Sunday evening in a match played at Westwood Racquet Club. The Wildcats, who just opened up the spring portion of the 2022-23 schedule last weekend, drop to 3-9 on the year. Edinboro moves to 2-3 overall.
Daemen battled it out on the courts this afternoon. Edinboro took the doubles point after the No. 3 and No. 2 pairings topped Daemen, but the Wildcat doubles team of
Frida Rubio (San Diego, Calif.) and
Kitsa Scime (Williamsville, N.Y.) took the No. 1 doubles, 6-2. The Wildcats would put together a comeback after Scime beat Cecelia Carayol 6-4, 6-3 in No. 2 singles, and Yinnett Del Leon (Cape Coral, Fla.) topped Sandra Riecken 6-0, 6-3 in No. 3 singles.
The Fighting Scots evened things up at two a piece with a No. 4 singles victory over
Carly Armitage (Rochester, N.Y.). Rubio put the Wildcats in the lead after battling De Almeida in a three set thriller, coming out with the back-to-back 6-4 set wins in the second and third after falling 6-7 (2) in the first set. Edinboro got the 4-3 match victory after sweeping No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
