Women's Tennis Falls In 4-3 Battle At Edinboro

Box Score EDINBORO, Pa. -- The Daemen University women's tennis team suffered a 4-3 loss to Edinboro on Sunday evening in a match played at Westwood Racquet Club. The Wildcats, who just opened up the spring portion of the 2022-23 schedule last weekend, drop to 3-9 on the year. Edinboro moves to 2-3 overall. 

Daemen battled it out on the courts this afternoon. Edinboro took the doubles point after the No. 3 and No. 2 pairings topped Daemen, but the Wildcat doubles team of Frida Rubio (San Diego, Calif.) and Kitsa Scime (Williamsville, N.Y.) took the No. 1 doubles, 6-2. The Wildcats would put together a comeback after Scime beat Cecelia Carayol 6-4, 6-3 in No. 2 singles, and Yinnett Del Leon (Cape Coral, Fla.) topped Sandra Riecken 6-0, 6-3 in No. 3 singles.

The Fighting Scots evened things up at two a piece with a No. 4 singles victory over Carly Armitage (Rochester, N.Y.). Rubio put the Wildcats in the lead after battling De Almeida in a three set thriller, coming out with the back-to-back 6-4 set wins in the second and third after falling 6-7 (2) in the first set. Edinboro got the 4-3 match victory after sweeping No. 5 and No. 6 singles.

#1 – Frida Rubio & Kitsa Scime (Daemen) defeat Rafealla De Almeida & Clara Salomao (Edinboro), 6-2
#2 – Cecelia Carayol & Marta Zottele (Edinboro) defeat Yinett Del Leon & Carly Armitage (Daemen), 7-5
#3 – Sandra Riecken & Ana Nadai (Edinboro) defeat Ailish McDevitt  & Mackenzie Schayes (Daemen), 7-6

Order of finish: 3,2,1

SINGLES RESULTS
#1 -- Rubio defeats De Almeida, 6-7 (2), 6-4, 6-4
#2 – Scime defeats Carayol, 6-4, 6-3
#3 – Del Leon defeats Riecken, 6-0, 6-3
#4 – Zottele defeats Armitage, 6-1, 6-2
#5 -- Nadai defeats Schayes, 6-0, 6-0
#6 -- Salomao defeats McDevitt, 6-0, 6-0

Order of finish: 2-3-4-1-5-6
